Chikmagalur is said to be coffee land of Karnataka where Coffee was first cultivated in India. It is also known as charming hill station of Karnataka which attracts many Trekkers, honeymoon couples.   It is said that years ago the land of this district was given as a dowry to the younger daughter of a legendary chief who ruled Sakrepatna- Rukmangada.  First coffee crop was grown in the Baba Budan Giri Hills. The saint Baba Budan on his pilgrimage to Mecca travelled through the seaport of Mocha where he discovered coffee. To introduce its taste to India, he wrapped seven coffee beans around his belly and got them out of Arabia. On his return home, he planted the beans in the hills of Chikmagalur.

How to reach Chikmagalur

By Air: Chikmagalur does not have its own airport and although there are plans to develop an airport near Marle village which is again about 10km from the town; currently the airports at Mangalore, Bangalore, and Hubli are being used as alternatives. However the nearest airport is Mangalore which is 160km from the city.

By Rail: The city does not have a railway station and the nearest railway station is Kadur which is about 40km from the city and most of the hotels in Chikamagalur offer pick up services to the travelers. One can take road transportation from there.

By Bus: Very well connected by road to all the nearby towns like Koppa, Sringeri, Kadur, and Barur. In addition to that Chikmagalur is just 250km away from the Bangalore and the route is quite picturesque. You can take taxi from Mangalore to Chikmagalur. Or else you can take a deviation at Hassan, which is between Bangalore and Mangalore on the National Highway 48. From Hassan the city is just 55km away.

Mullayanagiri: Mulayyanagiri is the highest peak in Karnataka, India. It is the highest peak in Karnataka, is located in the Baba Budan Giri Range of the Western Ghats. Standing at an altitude of 1,930 m above sea level, it is the highest peak between the Himalayas and the Nilgiris. The height of this peak is approx to 2000 metres. Hebbe Falls:  Hebbe Falls are situated at 13°32′29″N 75°43′30″E about 10 km away from the famous hill station Kemmangundi in Karnataka, India. This waterfalls are inside a coffee estate and can be reached either by walk or four-wheeler. Hebbe Falls gushes down from a height of 551 ft. Hebbe Falls, located 8 km away from Kemmangundi, is a favourite site for solitude seekers. The waterfall that is 168 metres in altitude is situated in Kemmangundi. Hebbe Falls is surrounded by dense forests and coffee plantations, Hebbe Falls gushes down from a height of 168 meters in two stages to form Dodda Hebbe (Big Falls) and Chikka Hebbe (Small Falls.). Kalhatti Falls: Kalhatti Falls or Kalahasti Falls is located at Kallattipura (kallathigiri) in Chikmagalur district of Karnataka, India. The waterfall is 10 kilometers (6.2 mi) away from Kemmangundi hill station. It offers an excellent view of the cascading water from the Chandra Drona Hill from 122 meters (400 ft) above in front of the Veerabhadreshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
