Wildlife
The most famous residents of Nagarhole National Park are tigers, Indian bison, and elephants. Other mammals that reside here include leopards, Indian wild dogs, jackals, sloth bears, striped hyenas, spotted deer, sambar deer, barking deer, four-horned antelopes, and civets.
Nagarhole National Park has been recognized as an Important Bird Area and has over 270 species of birds. You can find the “Critically endangered” Oriental white-backed vulture, and “Vulnerable” species like the lesser adjutant, greater spotted eagle, and the Nilgiri wood pigeon here. “Near threatened” species here include darters, Oriental white ibises, greater grey headed fish, and red headed vultures. Species endemic to this region include the blue winged parakeet, Malabar grey hornbill, and the white-bellied treepie.
Reptile enthusiasts should look for mugger crocodiles, Indian rock pythons, Russell’s vipers, common kraits, rat snakes, and bamboo pit vipers among other species at Nagarhole National Park.
Weather in Kabini is pleasant and warm throughout the year. In summers between March and May temperature shoots up to 36°C during daytimes and can go down to 10˚ C in the night.Ideal time for sightseeing in Kabini is during winters between October and February with the temperature ranging from 26°C to 6°C. Monsoons are usually accompanied with heavy rains. It is better to avoid this place during monsoons i.e. between June and September.
