khajjiar trek

khajjiar is Located at an altitude of 6,500 feet, the natural beauty and picturesque landscape of this place. The trek is a 14km trek through landscapes of Deodar and Pine trees interspersed with streams. While the sceneries and views are breath-taking, the trek can be a bit challenging.

Khajjiar was declared as 'mini Switzerland' by the then Vice-Counselor and Head of the Chancery of Switzerland in India on 7 July, 1992. Bhagsu Waterfall: Bhagsu Falls is a beautiful waterfall, situated in the small village of Bhagsu, behind the Bhagsunath Temple. During monsoon, this waterfalls turns into a 30 ft cascade, alongside a mountain that features slate graffiti.

Tibetan monasteries: The Tibet Oral History Project (TOHP) aims to preserve the history and culture of the Tibetan people. As advised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, we record the life experiences of Tibetan elders who were forced to flee their homeland following the Chinese invasion.

Dalai Lama Temple: one of the holy place in Dharamshala is Dalai Lama Temple. The temple complex is kept open from sunrise to sunset for the visitors to explore the peaceful ambiance of the surroundings. During the morning hours visitors can participate in the prayers as the monks chant and meditate. You can join local residents for a meditative walk around the temple/monastery complex.

Visit Cricket Stadium: The famous tourist location in Dharamshala is Cricket Stadium. Cricket Stadium (DCS), an internationally renowned stadium, is the home ground of Himachal Pradesh State cricket team. Few international and Ranji cricket matches are held here on annual basis.

St. John's Church: Approx ten to fifteen minute walk below McLeod Ganj, on the road to Lower Dharamshala, is the famous Anglican Church built by the British in 1852. Surrounded by a heavily wooded pine and deodar forest, the Church maintains a Christian cemetery adjacent to it and is a repository of local history.

Dal Lake: Located at a distance of 2 kilometers away from Mcleodganj Market, Dal Lake is just a walk away and also happens to be a major attraction for trekkers as it serves as a base camp for several trekking expeditions. This beautiful lake is set amidst lush green Deodar forests at an altitude of 1,775 meters and exudes transcendence in peaceful surroundings. The lake is also known for a popular temple of Lord Shiva that’s located on its banks.

Places to visit in Dalhousie

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary: This is one of the famous place of attraction in Dalhousie is Kalatop wildlife sanctuary. Kala top is a pleasant getaway, with a panoramic view and a forest rest house. Kala Top is situated at an altitude of 8000 ft and 10 km away from G.P.O square. It has a variety of wildlife such as Deer, Bears & Leopards.

Khajjiar: Khajjiar is known as mini Switzerland and one of the famous retreats among the visitors. Khajjiar is famous for the popular Khajji Naga shrine dedicated to the serpent god from which name is believed to have been derived. You can also enjoy trekking and adventurous activities at khajjiar.

Panch Pulla: It is situated 2 km away from Dalhousie and one can cover the distance on foot. The meaning of Panch Pulla is 'Five Bridges' and favorite with waterfalls, picnic spots as well for trekking. A panoramic view of the surrounding hills along with the view of the streams filled with pristine water makes the experience of travelling here memorable.

Satdhara Falls: Satdhara Falls are situated at an altitude of 2036 meters above the sea level. The place has derived its name from the seven beautiful springs, which are believed to have several therapeutic values. The reason behind this is said to be the water in these springs, as it comprises of mica, known as 'Gandhak' in local language. The mica has several medicinal properties, which helps in curing many diseases and ailments.

Daikund Peak: It is situated 10 kms away from Dalhousie at a great height of 2755 m above sea level. This is the highest peak in the area of beautiful pine laid landscapes of Dalhousie. This is also known as the “Singing Hill” when wind blowing through the trees creates a musical serenade. One can get a panoramic view of the hills and rivers below from here.

Due to its unique geographical situation, Dalhousie can be reached very easily compare to all other hill stations of India. It is only 2.5 hour drive from Pathankot railway station.

Dalhousie Winter Trekking is specially planned to project the young students into the field of snow trekking and snow crafts. During the months of December-January, the nearby area of Dalhousie remains covered with snow and it creates appropriate situation to practice the pre-mountaineering techniques. Keeping the town as road head, base camp is set in Kalatop Forest Area and height gain is done up to Dainkund Top (9700 ft), the highest point of the area. Going through the snow patches in Dalhousie, it leads to 5 feet snow in higher reaches.
