Kolhapur, also spelled Colapore is a city in the Panchganga River Basin in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the district headquarters of Kolhapur district. Mahalaxmi Temple:  Mahalaxmi Temple, one of the sightseeing attractions of Kolhapur, is a huge shrine dedicated to Mahalaxmi, the goddess of prosperity. This temple was built in the 7th century by King Karandev of the Chalukya Dynasty. The temple enshrines the statue of Goddess Mahalaxmi, also known as Goddess Ambabai. The statue is built as a monolithic structure adorned with various diamonds and stones. The temple enjoys a status of one of the most important pilgrim sites in India. The temple is situated about 5km from the Railway station and Central Bus depot of the city

Shahuji Chhatrapati Museum: Shahuji Chhatrapati Museum is situated on the ground floor of the Maharaja's Palace in Kolhapur. The museum is famous among travellers for its beautiful collection of artefacts, sculptures and paintings. The beautiful palace is built in black polished stone and is an marvelous architectural feat to have been accomplished in that period.

Rankala Lake: Rankala Lake was built by the Chhatrapati rulers of Kolhapur. It is believed that the lake is directly connected to a well located in the Panhala Fort. Other attractions present near the lake are the chariot of Lord Shiva and a temple with a structure of Nandi. Rankala Lake is a beautiful lake, named after the ancient temple of Rankbhairav, who was believed to be an incarnation of lord Shiva. The temple is now located in the centre of the lake. A quarry was transformed into a natural lake after the earthquakes which hit the area in the 8th/9th century AD,  This place is a special favorite of the children. The well-maintained garden and the beautiful Shalini Palace, which is located alongside the lake side, attract almost every visitor of Kolhapur.

Jyotiba Temple: Jyotiba Temple was constructed by Navajisaya in 1730 and is dedicated to Lord Jyotiba. Jyotiba is considered to be an incarnation of three main gods, Mahesh, Vishnu and Brahma. Jyotiba Temple lies at an altitude of 3200 feet and is situated at around 16 km from the town of Kolhapur. Lord Jyotiba, who is the prime deity of this magnificent temple, is believed to be an Avatar of Lord Shiva.

Panhala Fort: Panhala Fort is popularly known as ‘Panhalgad’ and is situated at a distance of 21 km from Kolhapur. Built under the guidance of emperor Bhoja in 1050 A.D. Thousands of tourists visit this place for its peaceful environment and historical importance. Situated at a height of 3128 feet, Panhala Fort is considered as a perfect weekend destination in Kolhapur.
