Khandwa - The Blessed Land of Omkareshwar Jyotirling, Sidhwarkut Jain Temples.

Khandwa is a very important Junction for visiting the Key places of worship like Omkareshwar Jyotirling Temple at Mandhata Hill located at 75 kms from the khandwa City on the banks of Narmada River. This temple is one of the 12 jyotirlings in India and a very famous hindu pilgrimage point.

Omkareshwar Mandhata is located on the bank of Narmada River, approx. 75 Kms. From Khandwa on Indore-Khandwa Highway. This is a holy place for Hindu and Jain Sects. Mamaleshwar, Millions of the pilgrims of both sects & foreigners visit the place every year. The name "Omkareshwar" is due to the shape of the island.

Sidhwarkut Jain temples

As omkareshwar Temple on Mandhata Hill is one of the foremost of 12 Jyotirlingas of the Hindus, So is Siddhwarkut of the 24 tirthankars of jains. There are number of Jain temples in Siddhavarkut near Khandwa, some old and renovated and some new ones. Some idols found in the old temple bear the date 1488 A.D.

Caves of Adi Guru Shankaracharya - Khandwa

Other sites are the caves of Adi Guru Shankaracharya (The great ancient saint of advait  philosophy of Hindu sect.) is located at this place.

Khandwa - The Birth Place of Legendary Singer - Kishor Kumar

Khandwa is also the birth place of famous Bollywood singer Kishore Kumar Gangopadhyay. The Stellar luminaries of the Khandwa are  Ashok Kumar (Film Star), Kishor Kumar( playback singer, Born on August 4,1929) , Anup Kumar(Film Actor) and Amit kumar(Play back singer) are from a single family(Ganguly Family). Dada Saheb Falke award is awarded to Ashok kumar for his invaluable work in Hindi cinema World.Kishore Kumar passed away on October 13,1987.His Samadhi is located in Khandwa,as per his will.

Dada Dhuniwaale Temple Khandwa

Khandwa is also famous for its local saint known nationally Dada Dhuniwaale. Dada Dhuniwale is remembered amongst the holy saints like the Saibaba of Shirdi, famous saint of Nagpur Baba Taj-ud-din jaj-ul-oulia. Dadaji ( His holiness swami Keshvanandji Maharaj ) was a great wandering saint. Who always sat before the holy fire (called "dhuni" ) so remembered as "Dada Dhuniwale" ( Grandfather in Hindi called "Dada").

Dada Dhuniwale is being worshipped as the incarnation of God Shiva. His exact biography is not available but many myths about him are there in the common. "Dada Darbar" (The Court of Dadaji) is located at his Samadhi (burial) place. Millions of the devotees are there in all parts of India and abroad and on "Guru Purnima" attends the fair at this place in khandwa. There are about 27 dham (places of worship, prayer and other religious activities) in India in the name of Dadaji. Dhuni (The holy fire ) has been continuously burning at the place since his time. His samadhi is located in the Khandwa city and about 3 KM south to the bus/railway stations.
