How to Reach Shimla from Delhi

By Flight: The nearest airport to Shimla is situated at Jubbarhatti, 22 kms from Shimla has regular flights from Delhi but due to bad weather conditions, flights may be irregular. Alternatively better option is to reach Chandigarh Airport at a distance of 120 Kms away, from Chandigarh, you can board Holiday Travel Taxi to reach Shimla in approx 2.5-3 hours.

By Toy Train from Kalka: From Kalka, the Narrow-Gauge Kalka-Shimla Unesco - Heritage Toy Train connects to Shimla. The total distance covered is 96 kms from Kalka to Shimla with 107 Tunnels & 864 Bridges. The Shimla toy train starts Journey at 656 meters (2,152 ft) above sea level in Kalka and reaches Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters.

The route offers a panoramic feast of the picturesque Himalayas from the Shivalik foot hills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Barog, Salogra,  Summerhill and Shimla. The Railway has 919 curves, the sharpest being 48 degrees. The journey takes about five-and-a-half hours to reach Shimla.

By Train: Indian Railways connects up-to Kalka (about 100kms from shimla) by broad-gauge line. The Kalka station is connected to most major cities in India, including Delhi and Calcutta.

The Palace situated at an altitude of 7000 ft above sea level is one of the popular heritage sites in Himachal state.  The Jubbal Palace is colored in cream hue and is admired with sloping roofs and red chimneys. The lower portion of the Palace known as Rana's abode consists of sandstone and is noteworthy for the vast stacks of deodar timber used in its structure. The modern wing of the Palace has an Indo-European design and feel with convoluted wooden ceilings and the works. The main entrance to the Palace is through a massive wooden door about 18 ft high and 7 ft wide. It is covered with copper and studded with coins.

Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex: Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex is a significant tourist hot spot. Opened on the 30th of May in 1887, this historic cultural centre was designed by Henry Irwin. The building's exquisite Gothic style of architecture is a true manifestation of Victorian artistry. This heritage building is now venue to numerous performing arts and cultural programmes in the city along with artistic and historical displays.
