Places to visit in Kullu Manali - Package Itinerary

Start the tour from Chandigarh and proceed to Kullu. It is around 271 km and take 6-7 hours to complete journey. The journey is too long so we will break journey at Sundernagar. Have lunch and some rest there, proced to Kullu. After arrival check into hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 01: Food

After breakfast visit some local sightseeing of Kullu Like Pandoh dam, Great Himalayan National Park and Bijli Mahadev temple. In between your visit have lunch at Hotel The Nest and some rest there. After that came back to hotel, Rest of the day is for your Lesiure and overnight stay at hotel.

Pandoh Dam: The Pandoh Dam is an embankment dam built on the Beas River in Mandi district and is located at a distance of 10 km from Manali. This dam is a part of a run-of-the-river power design and it diverts the water of the Beas to the southwest through a system of tunnels and channels. The water of the dam is used for power generation at the Dehar Power House before it is discharged into the Sutlej River. The Pandoh Dam is set up in a beautiful surrounding and the manmade lake created by the dam draws people to it. Located en-route to Manali from Kullu.

Himalayan National Park: The Great Himalayan National Park is also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Great Himalayan National Park. Spread over an area of 765 sq km, it is home to over 31 species of mammals and 181 species of birds. National park also serves as home to 3 species of reptiles, 9 species of amphibians, 11 species of annelids, 68 resident bird species and 50 migrant bird species.

Raghunath Temple: Raghunath Temple, constructed by Rajah Jagat Singh in 17th century, is the oldest temple in the valley. The story behind the construction of this temple is that when a Brahmin was found in the valley with lots of pearls, Rajah ordered his men to take them away from him. Subjected to torture, which he found unbearable, the Brahmin locked his entire family in his house and set it on fire. Rajah was very depressed with this event and felt guilty about what he had done to the Brahmin. To get over his guilt, he visited Shri Kishan Dass ji Paihari, who advised him to construct a temple of Lord Rama. On the advice of the sage, Rajah donated his entire kingdom to Lord Rama.

The place is very important and holy for both Sikhs and Hindus due to the gurudwaras and temples that dot Manikaran. The hot springs of Manikaran also attract a lot of tourists who come here to drink water or take a bath because there is a popular belief that, drinking water of this place will help people in attaining Moksha. Spend full Day at Manikaran. After that check into hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Lord Shiva Temple: Manikaran Temple of Lord Shiva is very much Famous among tourist. This ancient temple, being associated to Lord Shiva is revered by visitors. After an earthquake in 1905, this temple got somewhat tilted. This temple is also associated with the Kullu Valley’s devtas who are considered to pay visits to the temple regularly on a particular date.
Hot Spring Manikaran: There are two hot springs in Manikaran, that are both associated to holiness - the hot spring at the Sri Guru Nanak Devji’s Gurudwara and the hot spring in the River Parvati. It is believed that people after taking a bath and drinking the water of these hot springs attain salvation. The importance of the hot springs of Manikaran is no less than the “Kashi Kshetra.”

After breakfast visit some other Sightseeing of Manikaran like Harinder Mountain and Parvati river Manikaran, Kulanth Peeth Manikaran, Shri guru Nanak Dev ji Gurudwara and Lord Ramachandra Temple. In between visit have lunch and some rest at Mama Cafe. After that came back to hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Harinder Maountain and Parvati River: The town of Manikaran is encircled on the northern side by the mountain range called Harinder. Harinder Mountain’s snow-capped peaks offer beautiful views of Manikarnan town. Manikaran is situated on the right bank of the Parvati River that borders the town on the south.

Kulanth Pith Manikaran: Kulant Pith is considered one of the most superior. Manikaran’s Vishnu Kund is considered the purest and it is said that Lord Shankara was very pleased to live here. The high rising tanks of this place contain the purest water, one drop of which is said to free people of all their evils. Owing to the power of Shankara’s eye, Narad stated that Kulant Pith could help in freeing one from anger and evil. Moreover, it is believed that eating food that is cooked in the boiling water of this pith can take one to the Vishnu Lok.

Hadimba Devi Temple: Manali has many attractions but the main centre of interest, historically and archeologically, is undoubtedly the Hadimba Temple. This temple dedicated to goddess Hadimba or Hadimba Devi with a finely wrought four - tiered pagoda roof, dating back to 1553, is built around a natural cave, which enshrines the footprints of the goddess Hadimba. Hadimba was the wife of Bhima, one of the five great Pandava brothers of the Mahabharata, and later became the patron goddess of the Kullu. This four story wooden temple is located in the middle of a forest called the Dhungiri Van Vihar.

Monastries: Manali also houses three Tibetan monasteries, that have been built recently. There are three recently built Tibetan monasteries at Manali. The Tibetans living around these Monasteries in Manali offer a vide range of Tibetan Handicrafts and Carpets to the visitors to buy. Two of these Monasteries are located in the main down-town of Manali and one Monastery in Aleo. Aleo is located on the Left Bank of River Beas in Manali.

After breakfast proceed for visit Solang valley and Rohtang pass.  Solang valley and Rohtang Pass are the major attractions of Manali. In Between your visit have lunch and some rest at Casa Bella Vista Resturant. The rest of the day is for your leisure came back to hotel and overnight stay at Hotel.

Solang Valley: Solang Valley in Manali is located at a distance of 13 kms in a side valley at the top of the Kullu valley is a splendid valley between Solang village and Beas Kund. Solang valley offers the view of glaciers and snow capped mountains and peaks. Solang Valley has fine ski slopes. The Mountaineering Institute of Manali has installed a ski lift for training purpose. Located here is a hut and guest house of the Mountaineering and Allied sports Institute, Manali. Now a few hotels have also come up. The winter skiing festival is organised in Solang Valley. Sking and Paragliding are two main activities are organised here. Apart from this many other adventure sports are available like Zorbing, Horse riding & Snow Motor Bikes riding etc.

Rohtang Pass: Rohtang Pass is 51 kms from Manali. Located at a height of 3980 Mtrs, on highway to Keylong/Leh. The Pass offers a panorama and spectacular mountain view. once served as a crucial trade route, and still remains the gateway to the districts of Lahaul and Spiti.The Pass is open from mid April to November each year, and provides wonderful views of the entire surroundings. Just beyond the Pass is the Sonapani Glacier and the twin peak of Gaypan. The Beas Kund, the source of the Beas river, a holy site for Hindus, as the sage Vyas is said to have meditated at this spot, is also accessible from the Rohtang Pass.

Other Major Attractions

The another major attraction is Bijli Mahadev. Bijli Mahadev Temple is a huge temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is located at the height of 2,450 m above sea level offers beautiful view of nearby mountains and residential houses in the valley. Often called as the ‘Temple of Lightening’, this temple is famous among locals and tourists for the legend behind its Shiva Lingam. It is believed that the temple possesses a Shiva Linga, which had broken into pieces due to lightning. The broken pieces of the Shiva Linga were bound together by the temple priest using butter. This activity repeats itself once every year. 

 Prashar Lake is situated at a distance of 49 km from Mandi. This sacred beautiful lake is named after the great sage Prashar who is believed to have meditated in this region. Located at an elevation of 2730 m above sea level in a valley, this lake offers a 360 degree view of snow covered mountains. The depth of the lake is unknown but is considered to be very deep and has a floating island on it.

Vashist, a small village 3 kms from Manali located on the Left Bank of River Beas in Manali towards Rohtang pass is worth a visit, which is renowned for its Hot Water Springs and Temple. The village is also the site of some old temples, dedicated to the great sage Vashisht, and to Lord Rama. The Himachal Tourism sulphur baths are just beyond these shrines. Natural Hot Sulphur Water Springs with two separate bathing tanks for Gents and Ladies, which are always full of tourists. Turkish Style Showers fitted baths have also been built nearby. Hot water from the nearby Spring is provided for bathing.

The one time capital of Kullu. Here are old temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and to Sandhya Gayatri. The Arjun caves are just ahead.
