About Tropical Paradise - Agatti Island

Agatti is a 5.6 km long island blessed with aquatic diversity that comprises coral growths, multi colored fish and sea turtles. Being the gateway to Lakshadweep, Agatti is a small chain of islands that lies about 459 km off Cochin from the mainland and the nearest island, Bangaram is situated at a distance of about 7 km in the southwest direction. Agatti's total land area is spread over an area of 2.7 km². The eastern shore comprises of sand that rises from the level of reef flat at the time of low tides. The southern side of the island is less populated whereas the main population of the island lies in the northern side.

Agatti is also the only place in Lakshadweep which has an airport that makes this small island even far more accessible and within the reach of the tourists. The slow pace of life at the island is really wonderful experience and makes someone feel every moment of life is precious. Agatti travel guide will be a good source to get to know about the place.

Opana, Parichakali dance, Lava dance and Kolkali dance are amongst the most famous dance forms here. Handicraft items here are made of shells, coir and oysters are very famous here. •    How to Reach Lakshadweep
 
Kochi International Airport links Lakshadweep with the mainland of India. Agatti is the only airport in Lakshadweep with helicopter transfers being available from Agatti to Bangaram Island Resort during monsoon and to Kavaratti through out the year. The flight from Cochin to Agatti takes approximately one hour thirty minutes. Flights operate six days a week.


•    Best Time to Visit Lakshadweep
    
The best time to visit Lakshadweep is from September to May, when you can enjoy water sports activities. During the summer season, from March to May, the temperature varies between 22°C to 36°C. This is the ideal time to get into the water and enjoy different sports activities. Summer months are followed by monsoon, when this place receives heavy rainfall. The monsoon season stretches from June to August, when there is greenery all around. During September and October, the weather is pleasant and comfortable for a vacation. During the winter season, from December to February, the temperature varies between a minimum of 20°C and a maximum of 32°C. This is the peak season for Lakshadweep Islands.

The Lakshadweep Islands are characterized by a tropical climate with temperatures rarely rising beyond 35°C.

Sightseeing Options in Lakshadweep

    

  • Lakshadweep archipelago is made up of 36 islands. Only 10 of these islands are inhabited. Out of these 10 only two islands - Bangaram and Kadmat islands are open for tourists and for sightseeing.
  • Lakshadweep is a tropical paradise with snow white soft sandy beaches and clear, sparkling blue waters. Breathtaking landscapes and colours dominate the surroundings and a kaleidoscope of colours can be found underwater with a variety of unique marine life including corals.

  • Another place to visit in Lakshadweep is the Marine Aquarium and Museum at Kavaratti, which is an informative museum that was set up in 1983.
