Srinagar to Leh Ladakh by Road via Kargil - Itinerary

Day1: Arrival at Srinagar and check in houseboat

Pick from Srinagar Airport or Srinagar Bus station and proceed to Houseboat accommodation in Dal Lake.The rest of the day is at your leisure to enjoy the scenery,  houseboat stay and its surroundings. Proceed on a city tour, nearby Lal Chowk for shopping and Dal lake Tour in evening.

Dal Lake Tour

Dal lake is the complex of lakes, numerous causeways and channels. It was often viewed in song sequence of Bollywood Classics. Made famous allover India by the Movie “Kashmir ki Kali”,It served as the inspiration to many poets and painters. It is ridged by the houseboats all around its periphery The guest will find themselves surprised by the vegetable floating garden and the floating market selling vegetables.

Lunch & Dinner is at house boat.

Day2: Srinagar sightseeing with visit to Mughal gardens and Shikara Ride on Dal lake

After the breakfast, Proceed on the mesmerizing tour of Moughal Garden created by Akbar and other beautiful gardens like Nishant garden,Chasme-e-Shahi and  Shalimar Bagh.

Moughal Gardens-Nishant Bagh and Shalimar Bagh

Nishant Bag is about 5.5 km away from the Dal lake and 11km from city centre.Nishant Bagh was designed and built by the brother-in-law of Emperor Akbar called Asif Khan. Built in middle of seventeenth centaury, with Majestic Mountain in its backdrop it has vivid flora, cacading fountains and terraces in its grounds. Built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan with influence of Persian architecture, Shalimar Bagh is the complex of fountains, terraces and cascading waterfalls. There is common water supply to both the gardens.

Later in evening take a Shikara ride on the calm water of Dal Lake .Much like a go Gondola ride of Venice, Shikara ride is the top ranked tourist attraction .

After the dinner, have blessed time sitting in the sit-out area of the houseboat and watch the sleepy town of Srinagar.

Day3: Srinagar to Gulmerg ( 56 kms)

After breakfast at hotel guests are taken to the snow covered town Gulmerg where they can experience the Skiing and Cable Car ride up to the mouintain.

Aparwat Peak is ranked No1attraction by the Trip Advisor. It is Skiing destination and has repeat visitors due to its Gondola Ride (Cable Car) and Skiing operators. With the calming view of the snow covered mountains and calendar picture view it attracts sportspersons as well tourist alike. Do visit Gulmarg Golf Course and Baba Reshi shrine.

Return to Srinagar after the excursion and have a dinner at houseboat.

Day 4: Srinagar to Kargil Tour 

Check-out from the houseboat of take a three hour Journey to Kargil and check-in at the hotel in Kargil. The journey, though magical is tiring. Guests are advised to relax at the hotel and get use to the surroundings. 

Later visit Kargil War Memorial or take a pony ride to Thajiwas glacier.

Day 5: Kargil Site Seeing 

The major attraction of the Kargil are Suru valley and  Karste River .However it is essentially a town of Buddhist monasteries and have over 7 monastery in its vicinity like cave Monastry,Sani Monastery,Lamayuru monastery and Phuktal monastery. Far from the crowd of the cities and their maddening effects lies this old monastery’ reflecting the spirituality of Buddhism amidst the mountains and pure atmospheres of Himalayas’. Almost all of them are located at the Hilltop and are the hostels of Buddhist Monks.Do visit the War memorial to pay homage to our Martyrs of  Kargil War.

Day 6 : Kargil to Leh by Road

Have breakfast at the hotel. Latter, check out from the hotel and began the onward journey to Leh. It’s a one of the most beautiful six hour drive of the mountain destinations. Check-in at the hotel in Leh. Relax at the hotel and retire to your room after the dinner.

Day 7 : Leh Site Seeing Tour (Monasteries and Leh Palce)

Have breakfast at the hotel and take a packed lunch from the hotel. Enjoy the fulldaysight seeing tour of the Leh and cover some of the prestigious and ancient monastery of Leh. After visiting Thiksey monastry and Hemis monastery, guests are taken to visit the Leh Palace. The palace of Leh has a museum depicting the art affects and ornament of Royals of Tibet

Leh Palace built in 17^th century for the Royals is a nine stories complex with stark similarity to The Royal Palace of Lhasa, Tibet. Reflecting the Tibetan Heritage; it has a museum that showcases the ancient jewelery and artifacts of the Royals.

Monasteries and Shanti Stupa in Leh

Some of the spiritual monasteries of Leh are Namgyal Tsemo,Thikse monastery and Stock Monastery.

The Leh have white Shanti Stupa on top of a Changspa Hill. Built in collaboration by Buddhists of Japan and Ladhak in 90s, it symbolizes the world peace.

Day 9: Leh to Khardung La Pass and City tour of Leh

Have a breakfast at the hotel. The guests are taken for visit to the snow covered Khardung La pass. The key point is that it is approachable by road as compared to other Glacier Passes of Himalayas which require a pony or are approachable only by walking. Situated at about the height of 5600m it gives the divine and the calendar perfect view of Himalayas and Nubera valley. Return to hotel for Lunch and then proceed to the city tour of Leh. The tour will cover Shanti Stupa and Magnetic Hill. Upon returning at the hotel have a dinner at hotel.

Day 9 - Departure from Leh

Have a breakfast at the hotel and checkout from the hotel .The guests will be dropped at the Leh Airport of bus station as per their requirement.

Best time to visit Kashmir - Srinagar,Kargil and Leh

The temperature ranges from 14 degree to 30 degree during months of April to September, hence is perfect time to visit Srinagar. In winters the valley is covered with snow and the temperature may drop down to-10 degree. However, further up places like Leh and Kargil are opened for tourist for half the year only due to heavy snowfall. The road is blocked during October to May. The snow starts melting during May and highway opens from June to September.

Srinagar to Kargil & Leh - Route Map

The guests are received from Srinagar Airport or Bus Station. The guest can arrive at Jammu via trains like Jammu from Mumbai, Delhi ,Guhati,Jabalpur,Kolkatta,Pune,Rishikesh, Patna and Chennai and even as far as Kanyakumari. There after take a bus from Jammu to Srinagar for300km long Journey (6 hours travel time). After 3 nights stay at the Srinagar guest are taken to Kargil(202km from Srinagar and about 3 hours travel time) via Srinagar-Leh Highway by road. After one night stay in Kargil, guest proceed to Leh(229 km from Kargil) for 3 night stay. It takes about six hours depending upon the traffic and road conditions to reach Leh. The tour ends in Leh. The guest takes flight from Leh for back home.

Day 1 - Srinagar :

Receiving of guests at Srinagar airport. Meet & greet and transfer by to Houseboat/Hotel. Welcome drink on arrival. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in the houseboat/hotel. 

Day 2 - Srinagar  :
After breakfast visit the Mughal Gardens, Chashmi-e Shahi (The Royal Spring), Nishat (The Garden of pleasure) & Shalimar Bagh (Abode of Love). In the afternoon enjoy a Shikara ride on the Dal Lake. Overnight in the houseboat/hotel. 

Day 3 - Srinagar - Gulmarg - Srinagar (112 Kms) :
After breakfast full day excursion of Gulmarg - the most beautiful summer resort in the valley. It is popular for its highest golf course and skiing in winters. You can enjoy a pony ride and also enjoy a Gondola ride (cable car) to Khilanmarg (at your own cost). Return to the houseboat/hotel by evening for overnight stay. 

Day 4 - Srinagar - Kargil (Via Sonmarg) :
Morning after breakfast drive to Leh via Sonmarg. Sonmarg - which is one of the most beautiful drive from Srinagar. You may take a pony ride (at your own cost) to Thajiwas Glacier where snow remains round the year.On arrival drop at Hotel. Welcome drink on arrival. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in the hotel . 

Leh Road, Tours & TravelsDay 5 : Kargil - Leh :
After breakfast time free till departure. Later check-out and drive to Leh. On arrival in Leh check-in at the hotel. We recommend you completely relax for the rest of the day to enable yourselves to acclimatize to the rarefied air at the high altitude. Lunch & dinner at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. 

Day 06: Leh (Full day monasteries tour) :
Breakfast at the hotel. This day we take you for full day excursion of Thiksey Monastery. It is better to visit early morning to see sunrise and praying ceremony. Also visit Hemis Monastery which is one of the biggest in this region. While returning to Leh visit Shey Palace. Packed lunch will be provided. In the evening return to the hotel for dinner & overnight. 

Day 07: Leh (KhardungLa pass - 43 Kms. & City tour of Leh) :
After breakfast drive to Khardung la, the highest motorable road in the world at 5600 meters. The views from the top of the pass are amazing. This road carries on to the Nubra Valley. Return to the hotel for hot lunch. After lunch we take you for a t*zour of Leh city visiting Sangkar, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. 

Day 08: Leh to Delhi  :
After breakfast time free till departure. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Delhi.
