In June 2014, UNESCO  Doha Convention awarded World Heritage site status to Great Himalayan National park located  in Tirthan Valley'Banjar region of Kullu' Himachal Pradesh. The Great Himalayan National Park is also called GHNP has an approx area of 1152sq' mile with more there 1000 species of wild life flora, fauna, etc in other world enrich with Bio-diversity.

The Unesco World Heritage Site Committee granted the status to the park under the criteria of "exceptional natural beauty and conservation of biological diversity".

The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), is one of India's national parks, is located in Kullu region in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The park was built in 1984 and is spread over an area of 1,171 km2 at an altitude of between 1500 to 6000m. The Great Himalayan National Park is a habitat to numerous flora and more than 375 fauna species that comprises approximately 31 mammals, 181 birds, 3 reptiles, 9 amphibians, 11 annelids, 17 mollusks and 127 insects. They are protected under the strict guidelines of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972; hence any sort of hunting is not permitted.

About the Trek :- This trip is “strenuous”, and land based cultural trekking adventure, with travel inside the Great Himalayan National Park, the newest national park in Himachal Pradesh - India. The trek takes from from 1500Meters to above 4000meters at Tirath Glaciar

Great Himalayan National Park Trek Details :-

  • Day 01  Ropa to Rolla (1500m - 2100m) - 10Kms - Grentle Gradiant, walk in Ecozone of GHNP
  • Day 2 Rolla to Nada Meadow (2100m - 3300m) - 12 Kms - Strenuous climb - climb through oak and conifer forests
  • Day 3 Nada to Majhouni(3300m - 3800m) - 12 kms - Walk/Descent in Forst
  • Day 4 Majhauni – Tirath(4000m) - 16kms – Moderate gradient
  • Day 5,6  High Altutude Camp - Enjoy wildlife, photography etc
  • Day 7 -  Tirath to Nada Meadow - Camp
  • Day 8 - Nada  to Rolla and onwards to Goshaini

Note :- This Trek is very safe as it is accompanied by GHNP rangers and camp sites at Rolla, Nada, Majhoni are arranged in Cabins through Rangers 

Day 1 : Reach Gushaini in Tirthan Valley, here your staying arrangements are made by Holiday Travel team. The arrangements will be made in sai ropa community centre or Raju Bharti Guest House or River side Resort, other good Hotels around. Spend the evening at your leisure and be ready for the trek next morning.


Day 2 :- Next day Morning, we start trek to Rolla (2100m),it is a trek through the Ecozone of GHNP. Gentle gradient at the beginning of trek, After that it drops down to the river where the entrance to the GHNP is located. After showing the permits and the necessary registration, move along the river's left bank till the bridge is reached and from there onwards the trail moves along the right bank till one reaches Rolla hut.


Night Stay Day 2 :- Night stay in Rolla, which is a marvelous campsite with cozy huts for the night.

Day 3 : Rolla to Nada (3300m) Thach: By walk through oak and conifer forest. The trail is moderate till one reaches Chalocha (2450 m). A hut is located here but is in not very good shape and it is located by thick jungle. A prominent tree god is located just beyond the hut. Moderate to Strenuous climb starts from here. Possible sightings of Himalayan Tahr and Black bear. Nada Thatch (meadow) is very good for bird watching. Night Stay in hut in Nada..

Day 4 : Nada Thach to Majhoni (3800m): Gradual to steep descent through forests. Distance: 12 kms.By walk. The trail enter the dense jungle at the other end of the meadow and moves down to the side nala flowing into the Tirthan river. The last part is quite steep descent and the crossing the nala one climbs up to reach another nala flowing from left and then move along the path moving above the Tirthan river. Now follow it through deep jungle and bear country to reach a small hut at Shankha thatch. Good place for tea break and then continue on the trail to reach the camping ground of Majhoni. Stay in cave/ tent.

Day 5 : Majhoni to Tirath (4000m) and back Majhoni: Distance: 8 kms. By walk to the Tirath over a moderate gradient trail leading to vast meadow of Tirath (4080 m). The place offers magnificent mountain panoramas. The place has a small pond which is considered the origin of Tirthan river. Vegetation is stunted due to extreme cold temperatures. Blue sheep can be sited in large numbers and it is a snow leopard country. Return back the same way. Stay in cave/ tent.

Day 6 : Trek from Majhoni to Nada Thach. Distance: 12 kms. Day 6 : Rest day at Nada. Bird watching.By walk. Retracing the way one has moved in. Take due care and move together in the jungle. Stay in hut.

Day 7 : Nada Thatch to Rolla-descent. Distance : 12 km.

Day 8 : Rolla to Gushaini. Distance: 10 km. Total Distance: 76 kms.
