Why You must Visit Khajuraho in your Life Time

Khajuraho is a small village in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, located 385 miles (620 kilometres) southeast of Delhi. Khajuraho is famous for UNESCO World Heritage temples & monuments, it is also considered as one of the "seven wonders" of India. Best time to visit is September to April. The Khajuraho monuments were built & maintained by Chandela Rajputs, which ruled this part of India from the 10th to the 12th centuries. The Khajuraho temples were built over a span of 200 years, from 950 to 1150.

After the decline of the Chandela dynasty in 13th century, the temples were left under the cover of dense date palm trees for many years, which gave the city of Khajuraho its name, Khajur in Hindi means a date. In 1838, a British army engineer, Captain T.S. Burt rediscovered them. By that time only 22 of the original 85 temples had survived.
