Day1: Arrival at Leh and Half Day sightseeing tour of Leh

Guests are received at the Leh Airport and taken to their hotel for checkin.After the rest and lunch guests are taken to Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace .Later in the evening visit local market to buy the local products and souvenir shopping. The locally made apricot jam and juices are worth and try. The woolens stoles are the recommended souvenirs. Have an early dinner and rest at the hotel.

Day 2: Full day Sightseeing tour of Leh

After breakfast drive to visit Shey Palace (with its Gompa housing the gigantic copper-gilt Buddha statue), and then the 12-storied Thiksey Monastery dating from the 16th century. In the afternoon, drive to visit Hall of Fame (museum of military heritage), Kali Mata (temple of the Guardians in Spituk monastery), Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill & Sangam (confluence of Indus & Zanskar rivers). Overnight at the hotel.Have a relaxed breakfast at the hotel and proceed for the full day guided sightseeing tour of the Leh. The tour will cover Hemis Monastry, Stok Palace Museum and Sun Temple. Return to the hotel .The guests are provided with the packed lunches from the hotel for the full day excursion.   

Day3: Early morning excursion to Pankgong Lake

Leave very early morning at around 4am for the Pangong Lake.

After early breakfast leave for Pangong Lake via Chang-la pass (alt: 17370 ft./ 5486 meters), 3rd highest motorable pass in the world. Pangong Lake (alt:14,500 ft.), largest brackish water lake of Asia, is 4-5 kms wide and about 135 kms long of which about two-third portion lies on the other side of the Indo-China border. After sightseeing at the lake, drive back to Leh, reaching by the evening. Overnight at the hotel.

Guests are given the packed breakfast for the breakfast at the hotel guests’ proceeds to trip. Its about 6hours drive to Pangong Tso Lake(145km)  from Leh. En route to the Pangong Lake, guests will cross the Changla Pass. The pass is known to be the third world highest Pass to be crossed on the vehicles. Start the return journey before 12 pm as the about five km before the lake the road becomes slippery due to the water coming down because of melting snow. Have a lunch at hotel upon returning and guests are advised to rest after the journey. Latter in evening visit local market to experience the cultural flavors of local life .Have a dinner at the hotel.

Day 4:  Nubra Valley through Khardungla Pass and overnight Stay at Dikshit

After breakfast leave for Nubra Valley, driving across Khardong-la (alt: 18,380 ft.), highest motorable pass in the world. The pass offers spectacular views of the Zanskar range across the Indus Valley in the south, and the Saser massif in the north. Reach Deskit / Hunder in the afternoon and check-in at your camp / hotel. Rest of the time at leisure to explore Hundar and the white Sand Dunes where you can also enjoy a short camel Safari on the double-humped Bactrian camel found here (optional on direct payment). Overnight in camp / hotel at Hunder / Deskit.

Take an early morning start for the Khardung La Pass by road. After an hour journey and distance of 39 km guests will reach the Khardungle Pass. With the elevation of approximately 18,379 ft above Sea Level it known to be one of the geographically highest locations approachable by road along with Suge La of Lhasa, and Semo La of Tibet.The guests will cross this pass and reach Nubra valley. The journey to the Capital town of Nubra valley is like mystery .Path that brings you close to the capital town Diksit is marked by the deep green pastures, carpet of flowers alongside the river Shyok and Himalayan Dessert with double hump camels! The guests reaches Diksit and checks in the camp for one night. Dinner is served in the camp.

Day 5: Khardungla to Leh Back and Departure

Restaurants in Leh

Leh have many eating options in Fort Road and Changaspa Road. Lamayuru Restaurant and Penguin Garden restaurants are located at Fort Road.Lamayuru restaurant is specially recommended for its North Indian vegetarian food. Grill and Curry, known for its Tandoori chicken, is also option in fort road. Chopsticks and Noodle Bar located near Royal Palace provides authentic Tibetan cuisine. Do try thupkas, momos and noodles here. While in Diksit it is advisable to dine in the camp or hotel of stay. However the road from Diksit to Leh has many small Dhabas offering lunch options.

Appropriate Time to visit Leh

It is advisable to visit the town of Leh during summer season between April to September. During this time of year the snow blockage on the road opens up. Rest of the months of October to March is very harsh and cold. There is no road connection between rest of India and Leh. If you happen to schedule your visit during September you might be lucky enough to witness the carnival like Laddhak Festival.

Route plan

The towns of Srinagar, Delhi and Jammu and have direct  flight to Leh. Air India runs from Jammu and Srinagar to Leh.The time travel is approximately one hour. While from Delhi along with Air India there are Go Air and Jet Airways flights taking approximately one and half hour to reach Leh. Guests coming from other regions of India (Chennai,Pune, Ahembdabad, Banglore, Trivendrum and Mumbai) and abroad should first reach Delhi Airport and then take connecting flight to Leh. Upon reaching Leh guests are taken to their respective hotels.

Laddhak Festival

Its week long Carnival in the month of September in Leh, is known as the Laddhak Festival. A cultural odyssey of folk dances, processions and performances, it’s the time when locals unwind and enjoy their existence in this Himalayan kingdom. Hemis Festival

It the three day spiritual festival taking place in month of June. It’s marked by the mask dance performances and sacred rituals to celebrate the birth of Guru Padamasambhava.The festival takes place in Hemis Monastery is believed to have existed since 11th century.

Places of Interests around Leh

Nubra Valley

Situated at 113 km away from Leh, lies the mystical Nubra Valley with varied geographical flavors. A land of all elements sand dessert, mountains, valleys, hills, rivers, green vegetations, flowers gardens and glaciers; God as perhaps created everything here and given a miss to Ocean! The Nubra valley has an ancient Diksit Monastery that date back to 14 centuray.It is particularly famous for 32m high statue of Lord Buddha. The idol is painted in colors of red, blue, orange and golden yellow.

Khardungla Pass

At the height of 18379ft, this is claims to be highest automobile pass of the world. Closed during the winters it serves as the gateway to Nubra Valley. The inner line permit is not required till this pass and is mandatory beyond this pass.Its sought destination for Automobile and trekking expeditions.

Pangong Lake

Situated at a height of about 13,900 ft  Pangong Lake is about five hours drive from Leh. With only 33% of the area as a part of India its located at Indo-Chinese line and hence visit to the lake requires the inner line permit. It’s a salt water lake it rarely supports any fauna. It has been the location of one famous scene of Bollywood blockbuster “3 Idiots”.
