Yamunotri, the source of the river Yamuna, is the most important pilgrimage destination in Garhwal Himalayas, Yamunotri is located on a flank of the  6,315 mts high  Bandarpunch peak. The actual source of river Yamuna lies a further one km. ahead of Yamunotri, at an altitude of 4,421 m, and the trek to this place is extremely difficult, so pilgrims visit Yamunotri temple itself.  The main attraction at Yamunotri is the Yamunotri temple and the hot springs.  

This hot water pool at Yamunotri is used for the preparation of Prasad, normally rice and potatoes, cooked by dipping them in the hot water, tied in cloth bags.The whole trek to the temple passes through many large and small rivers, lakes, canals, forests, waterfalls, villages and meadows. 

Most of the Pilgroms travel to Gangotri & Yamunotri temples and thats it, you find all congegations, all chaos, all rush, fleashing pandas till the temples, but the real pilgrimage is beyond these temples to the actual orgin of the mighty rivers Ganga and Yamuna, while in Gangotri to Gomukh trek, you will find the most amazing gorges and amazing amphitheatre of peaks.

                                

Yamunotri Trek Details


You start the trek to Yamunotri from JanakiChatti, and enroute you see, sharp climbs, precipitous sides of a deep gorge, view the snaking Yamuna thunders Hundreds of feet below,vast vertical sidewalls of the gorge dotted with several little waterfalls.

The route however is secured with iron railings on the sides, for the route sees such a heavy traffic of pilgrims every season,

Soon you will reach, Deodekhni from where the Yamunotri temple can be seen set against the mighty mountain walls that form the foundations of the Banderpunch Massif.

The temple is situated in the middle of two large waterfalls which confluence together nearby.

Trek from Yamunotri to Saptrishi Kund

The trek from yamunotri temple to Saptrishi kund, the source of yamunotri river, Actually Yamuna is a raging torrent at Yamunotri Temple coming from sacred saptrishi Kund at the feet of the Champasar Glacier.

Yamunotri trek is not only tough but also very very chellanging, you will experience fastest descent and ascend of your life, You will camp at 600 ft above the yamunotri temple, you might trek in total darkness on the edges of terrifying gorges, but one thing is certain that you will be filled with joy of adventure and enriched with a life time fulfilling experience.
