Best time to visit Shanghai

Generally Shanghai has a monsoon influenced climate which has hot and humid summers. The best time to visit Shanghai is from March to May and from September to November. March to May is the spring time and September to November is autumn. Although autumn is the best time to visit Shanghai, but in the beginning of the season occasional typhoons hit at this time. Winters and summers are too tropical with temperature falling to −10 °C and soaring to 35 °C respectively. Summers must be avoided especially to visit this city because of heavy smog.

Getting in to Shanghai

  • By Flight

The best way to get in Shanghai is through flight as all the domestic and international flights land in Pudong International airport (40 km to the east of the city) and Hongqiao International airport. Both the airports arebroadly divided into 2 terminals and also offer direct bus service, fast trains, airport shuttles, taxis to major nearby cities.

  • By Train

The economic option to travel to Shanghai from other cities is through high speed rail networks. The major train stations of Shanghai are Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai West Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station. All of these railway stations are well connected by public buses, taxi and subways.Self-serve automated ticket booths are prevalent with time-tables in English for a hassle free journey.

In recent years many with new highways Shanghai is well connected to other cities in the area, including Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, etc. It just requires 50 minutes to reach Shanghai from the main area of Hangzhou. Again, it takes 2.5 hours from Ningbo via Hangzhou Bay Bridge.
