The town of Rewa is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. This town is located in a district of the same name, and it is a famous destination among tourists, mainly because of its historical importance. The district is also famous for its natural surroundings, and the place is very famous for being the haven of the white tiger. The first white tiger in India was caught in Rewa. You can take a trip through the tiger sanctuary located in the nearby region of Bandhavgarh, where you can spot many white tigers. You can also take a hike through the forests in the region, as the forests surrounding this tiger reserve are dense and rich in flora and fauna.

Rewa Tourist Guide: Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Rewa
Pickup from Rewa raiway st. and transfer to the hotel. After get ready you will proceed for local siteseeing of rewa i.e. Govindgarh, Pili Kothi, Rani Talab and Rewa Fort. Overnight stay at Rewa


Day 2: Rewa local excursion

DAY 01: Arrive Gwalior

Welcome to Gwalior, the city of true royals. On arrival at Gwalior airport or Gwalior railway station, begin your tour of 'Heritage of Madhya Pradesh'. You will be met and transferred to your hotel.

In the afternoon enjoy a half day city tour visiting the massive sandstone fort doting the city skyline, the 9th century Teli Ka Mandir and the 11th century Sas Bahu ka Mandir. In the evening witness the spectacular sound and light show (entry on direct payment basis) where the history of Gwalior and its warriors is narrated.

DAY 02: On to Orchha (235 kms / approx. 5 hour drive)

Leave in the morning for Orchha. En route visit the Phool Bagh, Dinman Herdaul's Palace, Sunder Mahal and the cenotaphs built in the memory of the rulers of Orchha.

On arrival, check into your hotel. Later, visit Jehangir Mahal built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo, Raj Mahal and Chaturbhuj temple. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore this beautiful village.

DAY 03: On to Khajuraho (178 kms / approx. 5 hour drive)

Early morning, drive to Khajuraho. On arrival, check into your hotel. 

In the afternoon proceed on a temple tour visiting the Kandariya Mahadeo Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The other temples of interest are Chausath Yogini, Chitragupta etc. each with its own history and presiding deity. In the evening witness the spectacular sound and light show (entry on direct payment basis).

DAY 04: Khajuraho * Excursion to Panna National Park - Rewa(60 kms / approx. 2 hour drive)

Today proceed to Panna National Park near the Ken River with its deep gorges, tranquil valley and dense teak forests. The region, famous for its diamond industry, is also home to some of the best wildlife species. If you are lucky, you could sight tigers and panthers along with herds of chinkara, sambar and several other wildlife species. The spectacular Pandav Falls en route and Rewa Falls, other waterfalls in the area are popular picnic spots.

The rest of the evening is at leisure to explore the local shops and market.

DAY 05: Depart Khajuraho OR On to Jhansi railway station (180 kms / approx. 5 hour drive) * Return home with happy memories

Today bid farewell to your 'Heritage of Madhya Pradesh' tour as you get transferred to Khajuraho airport or Jhansi railway station for your onward journey.

Baghela Museum

The Baghela Museum mirrors the richness of character of the Rulers of the Baghela dynasty & not the pompousness of kingship. This Museum comprises of an Arms Gallery consisting of many types of swords& weapons used during that period. Both the old and new kinds of guns used by the kings then, are at display in the museum. The most famous among them are the "pen-pistol" & double barrel 22.

The museum has a gallery named after the famous white tiger, Mohan called the Mohan gallery which consists of the tale of the entire history about the White tigers and the capture of Mohan, till his death.

 The Stone Gallery at this fort museum showcases the rich sculptures left by the Kalchuri Kings. The Gurgi Gate, the stone gate on the front of the Fort and the rich Stone Gallery inside the museum along with the Jagaanath temple offer a feast to the visitor. The museum also has a unique collection of paintings and rare articles. The painting of Maharaja Raghuraj Singhji, Maharaja Gulab Singhji, Late H.H. Martand Singhji, the throne and character of the 'Durbar Hall' are some of the works on display in the museum.

Govindgarh                       

Govindgarh was considered as the summer capital of the King of Rewa which is around 13 km from the town of Rewa. Famous for its Sunderja Mangoes, Govindgarh is also known as Mini Vrindavan. It is believed that around one-third of this region was covered with dense forests and was home to various species of trees like timber and others.  This place houses numerous temples like Chowandi Temple, Ram Govind Temple and Hanuman Temple. Moreover, Panchmukhi Temple and Shiva Temple lie in proximity to each other in the Govindgarh Fort, and can also be visited.

Pili Kothi                       

Pili Kothi is located in the district of Rewa which was constructed by the King of Rewa, Dhiraj Bandhvesh Sir Gulab Singh. 

Rani Talab

Rani Talab is among the oldest water-wells of Rewa. The Rani Talab is situated in the southern part of the city and is considered holy. The water of the well is used for many purposes such as cultivation, irrigation and fisheries. A temple of Goddess Kali is also situated on the west side of the lake.

Rewa Fort                      

Rewa Fort is one of the prominent tourist attractions of Rewa that was left incomplete by Salim Shah, son of Sher Shah Suri. When Maharaja Vikramaditya reached Rewa, he decided to complete the construction of the fort.Later, King Bhav Singh Ju Deo constructed the Mahamritunjay Temple within the Rewa Fort. With the help of Maharaja Pushpraj Singh, the repair works of the fort were carried out.Gujarati Kayasthas can be seen residing in the vicinity of the fort that came along Maharaja Vyaghradev in Vikram Samvat 1234.

Raipur Karchulian                      

Raipur Karchulian is located on the Rewa-Allahabad Road, also known as NH7. Situated at a distance of around 15 km from the town of Rewa, this place is a tehsil headquarter. According to history, Raipur Karchulian was the residing place of Kalchuri Rulers in the 18th century after the fall of the Kingdom of Kalchuri and was named after them.

Bansagar Dam 

Bansagar or Ban Sagar is a multipurpose river valley project, constructed on Son River. The dam is located in Ganga Basin in Madhya Pradesh, India. The objective to build this dam was to enhance both irrigation and hydroelectric power generation. The Bansagar Dam is constructed at village Deolond in Shahdol district. The dam is located at a distance of 51.4 km from Rewa.

Bahuti Falls 

The Bahuti Falls is a waterfall in Rewa district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Bahuti Falls is on the Odda River as it rushes down the edge of the Rewa Plateau to join the Bihad River, which is a tributary of Tamsa or Tons River. It is near Chachai Falls. It has a height of 142 metres (466 ft). The Bahuti Falls is an example of a nick point caused by rejuvenation. Knick point, also called a nick point or simply nick, represents breaks in slopes in the longitudinal profile of a river caused by rejuvenation. The break in channel gradient allows water to fall vertically giving risie to a waterfall.

Chachai Falls

Chachai Falls is in Rewa district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the 23rd highest waterfall in India. It is situated 46 kilometres (29 mi) from Rewa, at the edge of the Chitrakoot Hills, a part of the Kaimur Range The Chachai Falls is on the Bihad River, a tributary of Tamsa or Tons River as it comes down from the Rewa Plateau. It has a total height of 130 metres (430 ft). Chachai Falls is an example of a nick point caused by rejuvenation. Knick point, also called a nick point or simply nick, represents breaks in slopes in the longitudinal profile of a river caused by rejuvenation. The break in channel gradient allows water to fall vertically giving risie to a waterfall.

Keoti Falls

Keoti Falls (also spelt Kevti) is in Rewa district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the 24th highest waterfall in India. It is situated 46 kilometres (29 mi) from Rewa, at the edge of the Chitrakoot Hills, a part of the Kaimur Range.

Purwa Falls

The Purwa Falls is a waterfall in Rewa district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The Tons River while descending through the Rewa Plateau and draining northwards makes a vertical falls of 70 metres (230 ft) known as the Purwa Falls. The Purwa Falls is an example of a nick point caused by rejuvenation. Knick point, also called a nick point or simply nick, represents breaks in slopes in the longitudinal profile of a river caused by rejuvenation. The break in channel gradient allows water to fall vertically giving risie to a waterfall.

Best time to visit Rewa

Summer season in Rewa starts from early March and can go in till June. During this time temperatures can rise up to 38C. Summer temperatures generally range from a minimum of 32C to a maximum of 38C. Visiting during the summer months is not advisable and the average day temperature is usually around 35C. Monsoon season brings substantial rainfall. July to October receives the most amount of rainfall.


How to reach Rewa


By Air

Travellers can reach Rewa by getting down at the Khajuraho Airport which is located nearby Rewa. From Khajuraho visitors can take a regular bus to reach Rewa. From the airport, one can board a taxi to reach Rewa.

By Train

The Rewa Railway Station is situated at just 5.8 km from the town of Rewa. Trains from various places in Madhya Pradesh and other parts of India pass through this railway station at regular intervals. Travellers can take trains from Bhopal, New Delhi and Jabalpur to reach Rewa.

By Road

Travelers can avail buses to and from Rewa to all the other major towns in the area. The cost of bus tickets from Rewa to Khajuraho is between Rs. 120 to Rs. 130. Travellers can reach Rewa by car also which takes around two hours and ten minutes from Khajuraho which is located at 169 km from Rewa.
