About Fagu
Fagu is a small place located around 23 kms from Shimla and 6 kms from Kufri, and is famous for its scenic views. It is a day excursion from Kufri and serves as a base camp for trekkers, campers and naturalists.The location gives it a rare range of views that encompass both its northern and southern valleys and the snowclad peaks of the Greater Himalaya. In the open patches, the valleys hold tiny hamlets, orchards and neatly terraced field – while the area is covered with forests of deodar and spruce.
Drives on quite back roads like the Fagu-Bekhalty-Mahobra strectch are possible.Just above Fagu there are a few temples dedicated to the local god – Banthia devta that tourists can visit. The wood work on the walls of these temples shows the great craftsmanship of the Himachal.
Besides offering breath taking views of the mountains, tourists can also explore the forests and various fruit orchards. Tourists are recommended to enjoy a night view from Fagu to see a longitudinal array of lights on the Himalayas. These are actually the Theog-a human settlement that resides on the Himalayan slopes.
