By Air

Changi Airport is one of Asia’s best-connected airports and is an important hub for international aviation. Being an important gateway to Southeast Asia, mostly all major international airlines fly into Singapore. There is regular air traffic from Singapore to several destinations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia and North America. Regularly voted the world’s best airport, its facilities include a gym, several gardens, an outdoor pool, free internet, cafes and plenty of shops.

By Train

Singapore is connected to Malaysia, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur by rail, with a route to Bangkok. There are three trains per day, including a sleeper. Trains depart from and arrive at the Tanjong Pagar MRT station Singapore.

By Water

Singapore is increasingly being used as a base for cruises throughout South East Asia. Being an island country, Singapore offers regular ferry services to Tanjung Belungkor in Malaysia and Riau Islands in Indonesia. Star cruises offer an experience of a lifetime and are a great way to reach Singapore.

Best Time to Visit Singapore

True to its location in Southeast Asia, Singapore generally remains hot and humid all year round.

July-September: While tourists visit throughout the year, the festive season is a great time to explore the many facets of Singapore, especially around July when the Great Singapore Sale and the Singapore Food Festival take place.

Feb-April: The months between the summers and winters are quite pleasant. Plenty of outdoor activities become available then.

November-January: The wettest months are between November and January, when showers can last for long periods of time, while the hottest months are May and June.

Places to Visit in Singapore

Merlion Park

When you’re in the vicinity of the Merlion Park and One Fullerton, it’s hard to miss out on the iconic symbol, regarded as the pride of Singapore. The large Merlion statue, standing at a height of 28 feet has a lion’s head and a fish’s body and represents the city’s humble origins as a fishing village. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Marina Bay.

National Orchid Garden

Roses are overpriced and violets are hard to come by in Singapore. Why not enjoy the beauty of our national flower and all of its varieties? The National Orchid Garden is on the highest hill in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and a quiet stroll there will make any romance bloom.

Jurong Bird Park

The park boasts of the world’s largest walk-in aviaries with the tallest man-made waterfall (30 metres high), where visitors can enjoy a close-up view of free-flying birds from Africa and South America in a tropical setting.

Marina Bay Sands

If construction costs are a traveler’s bag, then they’ll delight in seeing the Marina Bay Sands, a resort that cost US$5.7 billion to build, making it the world’s most expensive building when it opened in 2010. The Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort that has it all: a luxury hotel, restaurants, an endless collection of shops, a convention center that is one of the largest in Asia, theater, an ArtScience Museum and other entertainment centers. It also has an indoor skating rink made with synthetic ice.

Night Safari

Travelers who enjoy nightlife but are tired of the club scene should head over to Night Safari where nocturnal, not party, animals are on display. Since it opened in 1984, it is one of Singapore’s top attractions, with more than one million people annually enjoying a tram ride through seven of the world’s geographic regions. Visitors also can take a trail walk to learn more about animal habits while another section features a show on the organization’s work to preserve threatened species through captive breeding programs. Three restaurants features menus and entertainment that reflect life in the jungle or rainforest.

Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay is a recent addition to Singapore’s tourist attractions, but is one that gardeners won’t want to miss visiting. Open less than a decade, Gardens by the Bay is built on reclaimed land in central Singapore. It consists of three gardens: Bay Central, a garden with a waterfront walk that will eventually connect the other two gardens; Bay East, which is opening in phases as sections are completed, and Bay South, the largest garden, which showcases tropical horticulture and includes tree-like structures up to 50 meters (160 feet) high that dominate the Gardens’ landscape.

Shopping in Singapore

With sales of all kinds at all times of the year, you might want to carry an extra suitcase with you. Things to do in Singapore

1. Have a picnic at the Esplanade Roof Garden

Price: Free

Yes, you actually can go up there!

The Esplanade Roof Garden is a prime location for a laid-back evening with your date. After a meal and strolling along the Singapore river, you can go to the roof to enjoy an unobstructed view of Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore River and One Fullerton.

2. Feel on top of the world at 1-Altitude

Price: $30++

1-Altitude, perched on the uppermost floors of One Raffles Place is the highest alfresco bar in the world. They house a combination of 3 concept bars and restaurants: 282 and City Golf, Stellar and 1-Altitude Gallery & Bar. So if you don't want to shell out on dinner just go there for the drinks.

What I like best about it is the spectacular 360 view on a clear night. It grants you views that stretches across to Indonesia and Malaysia.

3. Get romantic 200m in the air at KU DE TA

Price: $20++

Situated atop the 57th floor Marina Bay Sands tower, this lounge, bar and restaurant is the epitome of all things classy. Food is not fantastic but its the place you want to be seen at and the view is to die for.

It's a little harsh on the pockets for the young ones but a little indulgence goes a long way!

Tip for non-hotel guests: If you would pay $20 to visit the Sands Skypark, why not pay the same for a cocktail at Ku De Ta with the same view? No actually, the same view with a better atmosphere.

4. Wine & Dine aboard City-Sightseeing Boats

Price: $400++ (Private Boat)

For the really ambitious as this is not cheap.

You could privately charter a boat and spend the night on a cruise drinking up the bright lights of our fine city. Bring her favourite dishes along with a bottle of aromatic wine to give your partner the surprise of a lifetime! Costly but definitely blow-off-the-roof romantic.

5. Dine aboard the Jewel Cable Car

Price: $218++ (For Two)

If dining in the Singapore flyer is not for you, an alternative is Cable Car dining. This may provide a more intimate experience since the Singapore Flyer cabins are shared. You feel more vulnerable here too, adding to the excitement.

You can choose between a regular or floral cabin and have the amenities customized to your liking. Enjoy the comprehensive view of Sentosa and the harbour at sunset while on this hour and a half trip.
