Description of Bir & Billing

Bir-Billing combined are Known as the ‘Paragliding capital of India’, Billing is the take off site while Bir is the landing spot.

Bir is situated 350 km from Delhi and only 35 kms from Palampur, while Billing is further up 14 km from Bir.Bir and Billing have one of the most beautiful jeep-able routes in Kangra valley. The 14 km distance from Bir to Billing is actually a road hew out of the rock face in 1962. The distance can only be covered either by foot or a jeep.

Paragliding season in Bir and Billing is from March to May every year and then again from October to November.Every year there is paragliding world championship happening in Bir-Billing.

Billing village, completely surrounded by tea gardens and an amphitheater of low hills, is ideal landing around for para-gliders.

From May to June a tented colony is set up by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism for the convenience of hang gliders.Billing is also renowned for being the venue of the first paragliding competition and every year, The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Himachal Pradesh organises the 'Para Gliding Pre-world Cup' at Bir Billing in the month of October. Tourists can also try their hand at hangliding and parasailing.

Staying Options For Paragliders in Aima Palampur

As there are limited options to stay in Bir and Billing. Palampur is a preferred as staying option, Best Area to stay is in Aima Area in Palampur where lots of Properties have come up for Renting near the Neuggal Cafe,

Basically these properties offer professional and cleanest staying options and promiximty to all ameneties of life. So most paragliders stay in Aima area of Palampur near Neuggal Cafe, in addition heritage hotels near palampur ( Taragarh Resort) also provide luxury accommodation.

One Such Property under Construction is "Glider's Heaven" in the Aima Palampur, This excellent and cheapest property is right on the main road and close to Neuggal Cafe. It is a three story property having approx 8 big separate rooms. Basically a full team can stay here for few months. How to Reach world's best Paragliding Site: There are three options to travel from New Delhi to Bir.

By Flight - IGIA New Delhi to Gaggal Airport (Kangra, near Dharamsala) and then taxi or bus to Bir Tibetan Colony.
By Train - Delhi to Una Himachal and Then Taxi or bus to Bir Tibetan Colony.
By A/C Bus (HRTC) Departure time 19:45 - Delhi ISBT to Bir Road.

A short weekend trip includes Paragliding, Camping and short trek

Day - 1 :-

Arrival Palampur and Check in "Glider's Heaven" Guest House in Aima Palampur. After breakfast, proceed to Billing By Car through Bir site seeing and visiting Bir Monastery. Enjoy the drive from the base of the Billing mountain and reach the Top by the late afternoon. Reach back to Guest House by late evening and in the night spend your time on leisure in Palampur City.

Day -2 :

Wake up call in the morning with tea and have breakfast in the near by Neuggal cafe & Be ready to go to Billing again for flying. You will be given 45 minutes session for paragliding and beginners will be given training on the same. If one of you is the professional, he/she will take off from the site and we will drive down to the landing site. After landing, have a lunch in Bir and proceed back to the Palampur Guest House. Enroute Back to Palampur Guest House, visit palampur Tea estate, Bundla area and relax evening in Aima mingling with locals.

Day-3
Proceed back to your Destination.

Barot is (1,830 m) Just 40 km by road from Joginder Nagar and 12 km by the haulage trolley, Barot packs an enormous range of outdoor activities. The reservoir of the Joginder Nagar Hydel Power Project is located here. A trout breeding centre makes it a wonderful place for angling.

Across the River Uhl is the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary - home to the ghoral, Himalayan black bear and a variety of pheasants. A trek route through thick forests links Barot to Kullu. There are rest houses at Thaltukhod and Silbadhwani in the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary.

Bir has Buddhist monasteries that are worth visiting. Fine Tibetan handicrafts are also produced here. Billing,(2400 mts) up in the hills 14 km from Bir with an area of 200 km for high altitude and cross country flying, is one of the best aero sports sites in the country. After lunch move around the Billing. Night stay in camp with bone fire and music.

Day 02:

Wakeup call in the morning with tea .Post breakfast ready for the flight to Bir .Enjoy the Flight that will be about 30 - 40 minute. After flight proceed to your destination with unforgatable memories of Camping & paragliding with New Year celebration in Bir - Billing.
