Kinnaur tourism: Itinerary

Day 01: Chandigarh-Rampur Bushahr(Arround 239 km/7-8 hours)

Start the Journey from Chandigarh and then you can proceed to Rampur Bushahr. It is around 240 km and take 7-8 Hours to Complete Journey. The Journey is too long so we will break jorney at Shimla. Take Lunch and Some Rest After that back proceed to Rampur Bushahr. After arrival at Rampur check into hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 01: Food

Lunch: In between your journey have lunch at Giani Dhabha( National Highway 22, Dharampur, Himachal Pradesh 173209)

Dinner: Served At Hotel


Day 02: Rampur Bushahr-Sangla valley( Arround 111km/4 hours)

After breakfast check out from hotel and proceed to visit sangla valley. It is around 111km and take 4 Hours to comple journey. After Arrival check into hotel for fresh up. After fresh up you can visit some sightseeing of Sangla valley like Chitkul Sangla, Baspa river, Kumaru Fort. After that came back to hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Chitkul Sangla: The one of the famous place to visit in Sangla. This village lies on the right bank of River Baspa. The most popular attraction of this village is the temple of local goddess ‘Chitkul Maathi’ also known as ‘Mata Devi’. People of the entire Kinnaur District come to worship at this temple. Chitkul also experiences heavy snowfall during winters, due to which it also becomes completely un-inhabited.

Day 03: Sangla Other Attractions

Next morning after breakfast  visit other major attractionsof sangla like Bering Nag Temple, Buddhist Monastery, Sangla Meadow. The Rest of the day is for your leisure. After that came back to hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Bering Nag Temple: The another famous and religioustemple in sangla is Bering Nag temple. This temple is dedicated to God Jagas. Its most popular feature is the Fulaich Fair, held here every year between the months of August and September.

Buddhist Monastery: This monastery lies near the Reckong Peo in Brelengi due to which it is also known as Brelengi Gompa. This monastery displays modern Buddhist edifice. It was constructed by the Mahabodhi Society in 1992 for facilitating the Dalai Lama to perform the Kalachakra ceremony. Near to this monastery is a 10 m statue of standing Buddha, visible from a considerable distance.

Day 04: Sangla-Kalpa (Arround 50km/2 hours)

After breakfast check out from hotel and then visit Kalpa. It is around 50 km andtake 2 hours. After arrival visit some local sightseeing of Sangla like Kinner kailash, Roghi Village.  The rest of the day is for your leisure, After that check into hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Kinner Kailash: The one of the famous place in kalpa is Kinner Kailash. Kinnaur Kailash or Kinner Kailash as it is popularly known is a 6500 m high mountain peak. It is a sacred peak both for the Buddhist Kinnauris and Hindus. The mountain range of Kinnaur Kailash forms the border of Kinnaur District towards the south. The two most important mountain peaks of this area are the Jorkanden (elevation- 6473 m) and Kinnaur Kailash (elevation- 6349 m).

Roghi Village: Roghi is a small village, located around 8 km from Kalpa and is very popular for its apple orchards and ethnic village life. This village is very close to Suicide Point, around 5 minutes away. It has a temple and lots of apple gardens that surround this small hamlet. Roghi is only 113 km from Shimla city.

Lunch: In between your journey have lunch at Blue Lotus Resturant(Rekong Peo Road, Kalpa 172108, India)

Day 05: Kalpa Local Major Attractions

After breakfast  visit some other  major local attractions of Kalpa.  In between your visit have lunch and some rest at Hotel Blue Lotus Resturant. After that  came back to hotel, rest of the day is for your leisure and overnight stay at hotel.

Kothi Kalpa:  The temple at Kothi devoted to Goddess Chanadika Devi has a peculiar architectural form. The temple has a gold image of the Goddess that is kept in the main chamber. Kothi also offers panoramic views of the surrounding snow covered mountains.

Chaka Kalpa: The another famous tourist place in Kalpa is Chaka Kalpa. Chaka is reached through trekking by hiring a local guide to trek in the upward along the water channel from Kalpa. The Chaka peak is around 15000 ft above sea level. Day trips are arranged to a lake and a valley which is used as pasture land around Chaka from Kalpa.

Nako Village: The one of the famous place in Kinnaur is Nako village. Ice and snow melt and escalate down the Nako lake and the miracle of nature is surely praised as one sits beside it while Yaks, Kines, Horses and asses frolics around the vicinity. Besides this Nako also is a holy spot because of the existence of Buddhist temples of great significance and a rock which is believed to have imprints of saint Padmasambhava.

Namgya: The another major attraction of Kinnaur is Namgya. Namgya is decorated with fields of barley, turnips, buckwheat, apricots, vines forming lush greenness with a dash of gold and the babbling of the Satluj river stream feels like a sanctified chant.

Other Major Attraction

Baspa River: The Baspa River is a fast flowing river that passes though the hills of Sangla. The surroundings of Baspa River provide an opportunity to view timely rainbows and brown trout. It is also an angler’s paradise for being home to a vast variety of fishes. Crossing this river is also quite an attraction amongst the visitors as this process involves ride in a basket along the way. Its surrounding areas also stand appropriate for campers and trekkers.

Kumaru Fort: The Kamru Fort is situated at an altitude of 2600 m above the sea level . It is located in the picturesque location of the Sangla Valley and is entered through a series of gates. At the main gate of this fort is a large image of Lord Buddha that welcomes you. There is also a wooden balcony at the top of this fort along with an idol of Kamakhya Devi installed in its third floor.This idol of Kamakhya Devi is said to have been brought from Guwahati. There is also a Badrinath Temple situated within the premises of this Kamru Fort. There is also a popular fair held in the place to honour the main deity of the temple. During this fair, the idol of the temple is taken to Gangotri, which is the origin of River Ganges.

Buddhist Monastery: This monastery lies near the Reckong Peo in Brelengi due to which it is also known as Brelengi Gompa. This monastery displays modern Buddhist edifice. Sangla Meadow: The Sangla Meadows also known as Sangla Kanda is another natural sightseeing attraction in Sangla. This place is completely covered in greenery and surrounded by snow capped mountain ranges of the Himalayas. This place will also provide a view of the local huts of Himachal along with the customs and lifestyle of its local people.

Batseri Kalpa: The Batseri village is located on the left bank of Baspa River and can only be accessed by foot. The village offers cobbled paths, unique architecture and locally designed temple of Badri Narayan. Another temple dedicated to Lord Buddha is also located nearby. The gateway that leads to the village has a tiny ‘chorten’ that is believed to protect the inhabitants of the village from any kind of wrongdoers. A unique form of architecture, which are locally known as ‘kathkundi’, or ‘kathkuni’ can also be seen at the village.

Sapna Fort: The another famous major tourist attraction is Sapni Fort.  Sapni Fort located in nearby Sapni village has a unique architectural structure with two buildings joined together. The main tower of the structure is quite old and stands around seven stories high. A Kali temple is situated in the fifth storey. Raja Padam Singh of Rampur built the front portion of the structure, which is adjacent to the tower for his queen. Tourists can find some of the best and finest woodworks on window frames and door frames which are housed in this portion of the building.

Nichar: People come here to embrace mother nature because of its rich green and thick forest and the softness in its weather conditions but be cautious as you proceed to the higher and colder region which is a natural habitat of black and red bears.

Ribba: Ribba also known as 'rirang' gets its name by adding ri, which means chilgoza, which is one of the greatest specialty of Kinnaur and rang, which means mountain peak. The area is famous for its grape orchards and grape distilled alcohols and the innumerable trees with edible pines.

Lippa: Lippa having Taiti stream flowing by and the green grass which is considered nourishing for cattle and horses, is a favorite spot of Buddhists because of the three temples of Galdang Chhoikar, Dunguir and Kangyur and an old monastery dedicated to local deity Tangtashu.
