Day 1: Arrival in Delhi
On reaching Delhi, hire a taxi to your hotel. Check in your hotel and make yourself comfortable before you leave for the sightseeing around the Delhi. Your journey will start with the visit to major attraction in Delhi, India Gate. It is a war memorial built in the memory of 70,000 soldiers of Indian army during 1914-1921.
After visiting India Gate, the next destination will be the National Museum of India, one of the largest museums in India. It embraces variety of articles starting from pre-historic era to modern works of art. It runs under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Take a walk around this magnificent piece of art and you will not want to get back to the busy roads of the capital city.
Later than, it is time to visit Red Fort, is a historic fort in India. Located in the centre of the capital city, it was the residence of almost all the Mughal emperors for almost 200 years. It accommodates many museums. The splendid piece of architecture gets its name from its invincible red sandstone walls.
It is time to explore one of the oldest and busiest markets in Delhi, Chandani Chowk. It is the vibrant market that offers A to Z items you would like to buy at the best and cheap rates. Variety of Paranthas in Pranthe wali gali or roadside kababs near Jama Masjid defines Chandni Chowk. A visit to this place without trying such delicacies would be incomplete. Day 2: Full Day Sightseeing in Delhi
After having your breakfast, leave for sightseeing in Delhi. Start your 2nd day by visiting Lotus Temple. Looks like a half-open lotus; this is a quite recent architectural marvel of the Bahai religion. From here, you may move to Humayun’s Tomb, which is one of the most magnificent Mughal creation. Built by Empress Isa Begum, Humayun’s Tomb is a UNESCO World Heritage Site from 2015.
Tomb includes other contemporary, 16th-century Mughal garden-tombs such as Isa Khan, Nila Gumbad, Barber’s Tomb Bu Halima, Afsarwala, and the complex where the craftsmen employed for the Building of Humayun’s Tomb stayed, the Arab Serai.
Your next destination will be Tughlaqabad Fort, which was built by the founder of the Tughlaq Dynasty in 1321. Spread across 6 km with beautiful gardens, this is a perfect place for picnics and outings. So, do not forget to take your picnic basket, soak up some sun and enjoy the historical beauty.
In the evening, visit Akshardham Temple. It is a must-see site in Delhi and should be high on your priority list. It has stunning architecture, a captivating fountain show in the evening, an informative boat ride, a huge garden, a food court that offers appetizing dishes and much more.

Day 3: Delhi to Shimla
In the morning check out after having a good breakfast and leave for the ‘Queen of Hill Stations’, Shimla. En route, you will get a chance to visit many interesting places such as Murthal, Haveli, Fun World, Chandigarh and many more. In the beginning of your journey, first stopover at Murthal to delight your taste buds. Here you will find plenty of eateries but the Sukhdev is the famous one. It is famous for its Punjabi delicacies especially Paranthas and Dal Makhni.
After an hour-long journey, you will reach Kurukshetra. It holds an important place in Hindu religion and mythology. The significance of this place is attributed to the fact that the Bhagavad Gita was preached here during Mahabharata. To feel the culture of Punjab you must stop at Haveli, Ambala.
Next stopover will be Chandigarh which is a paradise for shopaholics. After crossing the city of wonder, it will take around 3 hours to reach Shimla. Once you reach Shimla, check in to the hotel for cosy night stay.

Day 4: Full day Sightseeing in Shimla
In the morning have a heavy breakfast and leave for Shimla sightseeing. At a distance of 8 km from the main city, Dorje Drak Monastery will be your first site in Kasumpti. Next destination will be Vice Regal Lodge. Located on the Observatory Hills, Vice Regal Lodge is also known as Rashtrapati Niwas. It is one of the best places to visit in Shimla. Earlier, it was the residence of the British Viceroy of India Lord Dufferin.
At a distance of 17 km from Shimla, Tara Devi Temple is situated near Shogi on Shimla- Kalka National Highway. The temple is popular for its spectacular site and beautiful valleys around the hill. The temple is one of the best pilgrimage sites in Himachal Pradesh. The Tara temple is completely devoted to Goddess Tara and nestled on a hilltop with an altitude of 1851 meters above the sea level. The lush green vicinity covering it gives the temple a very peaceful and pleasant atmosphere.
One of the major tourist destinations in Shimla, Chadwick falls will be the next destination to visit. The dense deodar forest and waterfall make the view totally enthralling. Later in the day, visit Christ Church. It is the second oldest church in North India. The magisterial impression of the church and architecture makes it one of the top places to visit in Shimla.
Visit Annandale which is one of the world’s famous golf destination in Himachal Pradesh and also one of the best tourist places in Shimla. It is a favourite spot among locals for playing polo. You can also visit a museum situated near the golf ground which is entirely dedicated to the Indian Army. Later in the evening, return to your hotel for overnight stay.
Day 5: Shimla to Naldehra
After having breakfast, check out and leave for Naldehra. It is 25 km far from Shimla. It is a perfect place for golf enthusiasts as it is among the oldest golf clubs in the world and one of the world’s famous golf destinations in Himachal Pradesh. With a springing greensward, the golf course expands over a sprawling area covered with lush green pine trees. Initially a 9-hole course, the Naldehra golf course was expanded to 18 holes for organising national and international events. A well-groomed golf course along with the undulating hills and Himalayan oaks attracts visitors for picnics or day outs.
From here, Tatapani will be the next destination. Situated on the bank of river Satluj, it is famous for hot water springs. The spring water is rich in sulphur content and is considered to have medicinal properties for various kinds of skin diseases. So take a plunge in hot water spring. If you are not comfortable in taking bath in open river bed then you can use the enclosed area, arranged by the locals. Adventure enthusiasts can go for river rafting on Sutlej River.

By Flight: The nearest airport to Shimla is situated at Jubbarhatti, 22 kms from Shimla has regular flights from Delhi but due to bad weather conditions, flights may be irregular. Alternatively better option is to reach Chandigarh Airport at a distance of 120 Kms away from Chandigarh, you can board Holiday Travel Taxi to reach Shimla in approx 2.5-3 hours.
By Toy Train from Kalka: From Kalka, the Narrow-Gauge Kalka-Shimla Unesco - Heritage Toy Train connects to Shimla.The total distance covered is 96 kms from Kalka to Shimla with 107 Tunnels & 864 Bridges. The Shimla toy train starts Journey at 656 meters (2,152 ft) above sea level in Kalka and reaches Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters.
The route offers a panoramic feast of the picturesque Himalayas from the Shivalik foot hills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Barog, Salogra, Summerhill and Shimla. The Railway has 919 curves, the sharpest being 48 degrees. The journey takes about five-and a half hours to reach Shimla.
By Train: Indian Railways connects up-to Kalka ( about 100kms from shimla) By broad-gauge line.The Kalka station is connected to most major cities in India, including Delhi and Calcutta.
Best time to visit Shimla
Best time to visit Shimla in March to June: This is a popular tourist season in Shimla as the weather is quite pleasant and perfect for outdoor activities. The temperature is comfortable and usually varies between 15°C and 30°C. If you are into adventure sports then this is the ideal time to try paragliding, trekking, camping and rafting.
Places to visit in Shimla
Shimla Ridge: the town spills downwards, with winding roads linking up settlements and stone steps connecting each layer. The Cart Road encircles the base of the main settlement and is the highest motor able road of Shimla. The Mall is open only to pedestrians. There is a lift run by the Himachal Tourist Department that connects the railway stations and Cart Road to the Mall.
The Mall Shimla: The Mall Shimla is the main attraction in Shimla, lined with shops selling woolen garments and shawls, handicrafts, departmental stores, eateries and old colonial timber houses. There is a palpable change of character from the times when the Mall was strictly out of bounds for all natives except royalty, to the Indian crowds that walk down it today.
Christ Church: At the eastern edge of the Ridge is the famous Christ Church, which was consecrated in 1857. It is a prominent yellow painted building with a Victorian-Gothic spire. In the church some of the finest stained glass windows in India depict faith, hope, charity, fortitude, patience, and humility.
Tudor Library: Nearby to the church is the mock- Tudor Library, which was built in 1910.
Scandal Point: On the other extreme of the Ridge is the Scandal Point. A statue of the Lala Lajpat Rai dominates the place and groups of local people gather here in the afternoon for some casual chit-a-chat. The temple of Kali Bari is nearby to the Scandal Point enshrines the idol of Shyamla Devi, the presiding deity of Shimla. Town Hall reminds of the colonial past of Shimla, the timber lined General Post Office and the old Gaiety Theatre remind of teh Britishb Era. This popular hall was home to the Shimla Amateur Dramatic Society, complete with a gentlemen’s club where the discussion veered around the noble pursuit of cricket and horse racing.
St. Michael’s Cathedral/ Shimla church: The other important church, St. Michael’s Cathedral, which is built like a cruciform, is just off the Mall. Vice Regal Lodge, now known as the Rashtrapati Niwas (President’s House) is the most impressive colonial edifice of Shimla, located on the top of Observatory Hill, this Elizabethan mansion was built in 1888 for Lord Differing. It now houses the Institute of Advanced Studies, and is open only in some parts to the public.
The Glen: A thickly wooded area 4 kms to the northwest past the Cecil Hotel, Chadwick Falls, at 1,586 metres where the river drops 67 metres and is best visited during the monsoons.
The Sankat Mochan Temple: About 7 kms on the Shimla-Kalka road and the Himalayan Aviary close to the Viceregal Lodge, with a selection of birds like the monal, pheasant, pea fowls and peacocks. The Summer Hill is in suburbs of Shimla and is located about 5 kms away the town and a stop on the Kalka-Shimla rail line, has quiet walks through wooded surroundings. People/Lifestyle of Shimla
The people of Shimla are among the warmest and friendliest people of India. They believe in simple living and are content with whatever they have got in life. The locals here are known as the Pahari Peoples. However in modern times, the people living in Shimla are known as Shimlaites. The Shimlaites make their living through agriculture and livestock. The women here wear Salwar, Kameez, Kurta or the long knee length gown known as Juan Chadiyan which reflects their culture.

There are very few places in the world as richly endowed as Himachal Pradesh with its geographical diversity. Shimla is situated in the Shivalik range of Himalayas with combination of low lying hills to gigantic mountains. Golf in Beautiful Shimla
At Naldera, 23 km. from beyond Shimla is one of the oldest golf courses in India. The course, whose topography is absolutely natural, was originally placed by the British Viceroy of India, Golf Lord Curzon, at the turn of the century. He was so enchanted by the spot that he named one of his daughters 'Naldera' after the spot. This is a par 68, nine whole courses which is regarded as one of the most challenging in the country. Ice Skating - The world's Largest Natural Frozen Ice Rink
The Shimla ice-skating rink has the largest open-air area with naturally frozen ice in this part of the world. The Ice Skating Club has already celebrated its Diamond Jubilee.
Ice-skating normally begins in early December and carries on to February. Clear skies and low Ice Skating, Shimla temperatures provide series of uninterrupted sessions. There are two sessions every day, in the morning and in the evening depending upon the frozen ice on the ground.
