Bhimtal is located in the northern part of the state of Uttarakhand, in the northern region of India. It is located at an altitude of 1,371 m above sea level amongst the Kumaon hills. There is an island amid lake a restaurant is located atop it. Bhimtal Lake is a small island in the middle adding charm to its picturesque surroundings. It is bounded with dense forest of oaks, pine and shrubs along with beautiful lakes and salubrious weather.  This place seems to be under the most beautiful magical spell of nature. The origin of this small town is obscure. Bhimtal got its name from Bhim, one of the legendary personalities and central characters mentioned in the Indian epic of Mahabharata.

Bhimtal Lake

The major attraction in Bhimtal is the Bhimtal Lake, which has an island at its centre. The Bhimtal Lake in the Bhimtal town of Uttarakhand was built in 118 with a masonry dam for the storage facility. The lake provides the city with drinking water supply and supports aquaculture, consisting of varieties of fish species. Bhimtal Climate

All four seasons come into their own in Kumaon, including red-gold autumn, a bitterly cold winter and a monsoon which often brings landslides in its wake.

Winter (October to December): The minimum temperature at the place is recorded at -3°C and the maximum temperature remains around 15 degree C. Winters in Bhimtal are cold and starts in the month of October. The Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (aries) is a state observatory, situated amidst tranquil environs atop a hill. Earlier known as UPSO and State Observatory (SO), the observatory finally started functioning as aries on 22nd March 2004.ARIES has latest equipment like powerful optical telescopes.

Eco Cave Garden

Eco Cave Garden is a cluster of interconnected caves and hanging gardens, which are one of the popular tourist attractions of the hill station. There are six underground caves in this garden, connected through tunnels. Named after various wild animals that they resemble, some of these caves are so narrow.

High Altitude Zoo

 It is the only wildlife establishment of its kind in the state of Uttarakhand. Nestled in the Sher ka Danda Hills, perched at an altitude of 2100 metros above the sea level, it covers a total geographical area of 4.693 hectares.

Majkhali

Majkhali is a small hemlet which is well known for its natural beauty. This beautiful temple is located at 12 km. from Ranikhet town on Almora road and Majkhali is also famous for Goddess Durga.

Jhula Devi Temple

Jhula Devi temple is an ancient 8th century temple and it is considered to be 700 years old which is located at a distance of 7 km from Ranikhet near Chaubatia. The present temple complex however was constructed in 1935 and is dedicated to a form of the Goddess Durga. The live stock roams freely in the area despite of the area being a home to Tigers and Leopards who do not attack due to the Goddess’ influence.

Chaubatia Gardens

Chaubatia Gardens is a very beautiful garden which is located about 10.0 km. south of Ranikhet in Almora district of Uttarakhand. The garden provides some of the clearest views of the surrounding hills and landscapes and it is a home to the Government Fruit research center that is known for its various types of apples.

Govind Ballabh Pant high altitude zoo is situated around 2km from the bus station. The zoo is set at an elevation of 2100mts above sea level providing high altitude animals a sufficient and habitat like environment. The Zoo consists of animals like Leopard , Hill Fox, Siberian Tiger (snow tiger), Palm civet cat, Wolf, Silver Pheasants, Barking Deer, Sambhar, Monkeys, Rose ringed Prakeet, Himalayan black bear, Ghoral, White Peacock. The zoo is closed on Mondays and the entry ticket is of Rs. 10. Feeding animals is strictly prohibited in the zoo and eatables are also not allowed (you can take liquid diets).
