Auli is a "bugyal" which means meadow in the regional language. It is a lonely and beautiful place to enjoying the beauty of hill Auli in winter which is covered by snow and summer is enrich by green landscape. Auli is towards the north of the state and forms a part of the Garhwal mountain range. It is at a distance of 16 km from Joshimath on the Badrinath route. Shopping in Auli

Auli is basically an adventure spot, so there are no signature shopping items and there aren't many shops to head out to and the town almost entirely lacks artisans and craftsmen. But if you must, head out to Joshimath and check out the local markets selling woolen shawls, Tibetan prayer wheels and Kullu caps. Alternatively you can pick up some wooden items and paintings from Dehradun.

Auli Artificial Lake

Auli Artificial Lake is one of the world's highest manmade lake. This lake was developed by the government in view of creating artificial snow on the new ski slopes at the time of low snow fall. Chattrakund Lake

The Kuari Pass Trek found fame in the early 1900’s when Lord Curzon, Eric Shipton and Bill Tilman used the passage in their pioneering explorations of the region.The Kuari Pass trek is also known as The Curzon Trail (named after the former British Viceroy Of India “Lord Curzon”). 'Tapo' meaning meditation, 'van' means forest in Sanskrit. The place is 15 km from Joshimath and has a temple and a natural hot water spring.

In Auli there is a small Hanuman temple, legand says when Laxman, younger brother of Lord Rama got injured fighting in Lanka (Sri Lanka).Hanuman flew from Lanka to fetch Sanjeevani Booty and during his way to Sanjivani mountain he took some rest in Auli before continuing his journey.
