Golden Jubilee Museum In Agatti:

 

 

Golden Jubilee Museum is the only museum in entire Lakshadweep. It is one of the major attractions of Agatti. The museum displays sculpts of the traditional Minicoy sailboats called ‘jagdhoni’. Antique jars, pots, wooden chests and beautiful designer collection of gold coins are some of the artifacts that are displayed at the museum .The diverse range of collection at the museum reflects the historical moment of the past. It also showcase sculpts of traditional Minicoy sailboats called ‘jagdhoni’. Two busts of Lord Buddha are located at the ground floor of the two story building are considered to be have originated from the 9th and 12 century. The beautiful artifacts show the history of this place before the period of Islam.

 

Mohiyudeen Mosque In Agatti:

 

 

Mohiyudeen Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Lakshadweep that was constructed during the 16th century. Situated amidst the groves of palms and superbly intricate carved tombstones in which some are even as old as the mosque itself, the mosque appears an example of spectacular masterwork. Enchanting and peaceful environs of the mosque premises tune up the soul of human body to the invisible and supernatural almighty. Built in the traditional style that resembles the art work of the Malabar Temple, the mosque doesn’t have even a minaret. A huge well and a tank are also located inside the premises.


 

Lagoon, Agatti:

 

 

Beyond the jetty in Agatti Island, there is a large lagoon with clear water. This is the place through which the boats enter the jetty. With glass bottomed boats, the lagoon can be seen with the aquatic animals such as fishes, crabs, floating reefs, etc.The water is about 10 ft deep, but the bottom is visible through the clear waters. Boats to go into the lagoon are found in the jetty. Also, facilities of kayaking and other water based activities are available here.  

 

Bangaram Island :

 

 

Bangaram Island is one of the inhabited islands in Lakshadweep. Boat tours to Bangaram take around 2 hours. There is a Bangaram Resort in this island. During a visit to the Bangaram islands, snorkelling, diving and scuba diving can be done.The island is full of coral reefs and the water is crystal clear with variety of fish. There are three other small uninhabited islands nearby, Thinakara, Parli I and Parli II. The water between these islands is very shallow and a walk can be taken here.Lunch can be had on the island, or packed food can be arranged from Agatti. The area of the shipwreck beyond the reefs is a place full of fish and corals, where diving can be done. The trip to Bangaram Island starts at around noon and the return to the Agatti Island is possible in the evening.

 

Pitti Island :

 

 

Pitti Island is a small uninhabited island by the Agatti Island in the Lakshadweep archipelago, and is a part of the Pitti bank. Amini Island and Pitti Island are a part of the sunken atoll, which is also well known for the variety of birds. This particular island has been converted into a bird sanctuary.

 Reach Agatti Island By Air:

Situated on the southern end of Agatti Island, Agatti Aerodrome is the single landing field in the Lakshadweep Islands. The airport is located in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep (India). There is only a single airline ‘Air India Regional’ which provides its services in this airport. The airline connects the airport with different parts of the country such as Bangalore, Kochi and Chennai.

 

 Reach Agatti Island By Road :

Agatti does not have a bus facility from the mainland of India but the nearest place is Cochin, situated at a distance of 494 kms from Agatti. One can opt for the bus from across multiple destinations to Cochin and then choose either flight or cruise ship for further travel.


Reach Agatti Island By Train :

There is as such no direct railway facility for the Agatti Island. However, one can find the trains for Cochin and from there flight or ship facilities are available for the island. Therefore, how to reach Agatti is not a tough job.

Summer Season at Agatti Island:

Agatti has a tropical climate with temperature in the summer season varies from 35°c to 22°c. Beautiful beach and the lagoon during the summer is the perfect place to enjoy the warmth of the summer. Numerous coconut trees surrounding the beautiful island makes this place really enjoyable and temperature put no effect in the itinerary of the tourist.

Monsoon Season at Agatti Island:

Monsoons season lies in the month of June to August and the island receives heavy intermittent rain falls. The monsoon season even accentuates the beauty of the small island of Agatti.

Winter Season at Agatti Island:

Winter season starts from November and continues till February. The average minimum temperature in winter lies in the range of 32°C to 20°C. Therefore, best season to visit Agatti is winters.
