Sightseeing and Things to do in Gushaini - Tirthan Valley

Gushaini has quite a lot to offer when it comes to sightseeing and exploring the places around. Right from nature walks to rock climbing and of course the famous Great Himalayan National Park. It is also the perfect place to laze around or sit back, relax and enjoy. Fishing also becomes a great attraction during the season. Also the river itself with its exuberance and crystal clear water never fails to relax and rejuvenate the city jaded soul.

Trout Fishing in Gushaini

This region of Himachal Pradesh is noted for its trout fishing. Local fishermen and fishing enthusiasts abound by tales of the ones they caught and also the ones they never managed to. Trout fishing is a dexterous sport that is also at the same time quite easy to master the art of stealthily leaping over rocks . Local fishermen claim to know some certain large sized trout ''by name'' and will visit the ponds regularly to try and hook them again with innovative and creative adjustments to their lures. It''s all a part of the trout game and the Tirthan valley is one great place to play the game for one, the trout are plentiful, so is the river, the valley all peaceful and of course, the wonderful weather. During the trout season the buzzword in the valley is the ‘mepps’. For the uninitiated ‘mepps’ is a brand name for one of the spinners. One who owns the mepps owns the river and a different kind of respect from fellow fishermen. However, as a word of caution, for the not-so-regular visitors who are trying their hands out at fishing, be careful how you use your spinner. This is because they are quite expensive and the locals know that and are also quite experts at retrieving spinners snagged in the rocks; only that they will do so after the fisherman has left in frustration. Trout fishing season extends from March to October. Non transferable daily licenses are available and cost Rs. 100 per fisherman per rod.
