The second all family trip can be the Jeep Ride which is quite unforgettable. Hire a jeep for the entire family. Ideal family count would be six, to sit comfortably. For a fixed amount, the jeep will cover almost a 60 to 75 kilometer drive, across some of Thekkady’s most lovely places. It starts with 2 to 3 hill tops that gives an exquisitely lovely view of Iddukkitown. Some mythological temples like the Kannagi temple can also be viewed from one of the hill tops. The jeep ride then covers, the finer aspects of the MullaperiyarDam, including viewing of the flow systems and also the miniature model of the dam along with its architecture. After the Dam coverage, the jeep ride will take you for viewing of lush green vegetable farms on the Kerala – Tamil Nadu border. For city dwellers, this would be truly interesting. The last part of the trip is the sprawling vineyards, in which the entire system of grape cultivation is shown and explained. Lunch can be had at Thekkady town center where all types of restaurants are available.
Once the jeep returns to the Thekkady tourist center starting point, you can take a break and plan for your next trip i.e. the Elephant ride. This 45 minute ride will take you in some selected spots of the arena. Two people can climb on a single elephant. A trained mahout will be with you throughout the 45 minute joy ride.
Thekkady is famous for its tribal culture and songs and their assimilation into modern day society. Wind up the days tiring events by buying tickets for a tribal dance show which starts from 6.00 pm onwards. Each show is about 45 minutes.
