Arrive at airport or railway station and proceed towards Gangtok which is known as largest town of the Indian state of Sikkim. Gangtok India points of interest
Tsomgo Lake: The glacial Tsomgo Lake is located at an altitude of 3,780 meters above sea level. It is also called as Changu Lake and is crossed by the Nathu la Pass on the north. This is one of the few and awesome high altitude lakes in India. The lake becomes doubly attractive with the reflections of the surrounding hills on the water. Tsomgo Lake is oval in shape and approximately 1km. long. It has an average depth of about 50 ft. it was created by the snow melted water from the mountains around the lake & a river namely Lungtze Chu has been created from Tsomgo Lake. The lake further falls into Rangpo-chu.
Saramsa Garden: Saramsa Garden was established in 1922 and has served various purposes. This is a vast stretch of landscaped garden located about 14kms from Gangtok Town and near Ranipool. It's ideal for leisure, recreation and picnic. The purpose behind setting up of the garden was to cater to the needs of the British officers as well as the former Namgyal Royal family. Various fruit trees such as banana, orange, pineapple and guava were grown here. The Forest Department introduced Cephaelis Ipecacuanha, a medicinal plant in the year 1940.
Ganesh Tok View Point: Ganesh Tok is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh, it is so small that only one person can crawl into the temple at a time. However, the main thing to be notices here is its unique location which acts like a viewpoint. The view point is set at a height of 6500 m and offers spectacular sights of the snow capped peaks. There is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha at the view point. The temple is so small that it can accommodate just one person at a time.
Tashi View Point: Tashi View Point is one of the major attractions of Gangtok and is located at a distance of 8 km from the town. The place is a must visit for nature lovers as it offers great views of the imposing Himalayan mountains, specifically Mount Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu. This is basically a sunrise point to watch the majestic panorama of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Siniolchu with other snow clad peaks and can have an experience of the change of colour of snow on the mountains during the Sunrise. A resting shed and a small cafeteria situated at Tashi View Point provides shelter and other amenities to the tourists. A park above the View Point is a good place to enjoy a picnic.
Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary: Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is a nature park in the Indian state of Sikkim. It has forty species of rhododendron trees. It is located in the Yumthang Valley north of Lachung in North Sikkim district. Bird species found in the park include Wood snipe and Hoary-throated barwing. Vast range of flora is found at the place which includes Poppies, Rhododendrons, Primulas, Saxifrages, Gentians, Iris and much more. It is the home of spotted lingsang and tiger.
Hanuman Tok: Hanuman Tok is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple is surrounded by lush green parks and beautiful mountains. From the temple one gets unobstructed views of Kanchenjunga. The word “Tok” in local language means temple. Hanuman Tok is a famous temple in Gangtok dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The legend about the place suggests that Lord Hanuman halted for a rest here while carrying Sanjeevni to Lanka from the Himalayas. Tourists and pilgrims gather at the temple in large numbers to pray and wish fulfillment. The idol of Lord Hanuman was erected here in 1950 when an officer named Appaji Pant had a divine dream at this location.
Nathula Pass: The mighty mountain pass of Nathu La is located at an astonishing height of approximately 4,310 meters above sea level and is considered to be one of the highest motor able mountain passes in the world. It is 56 km East of Gangtok and connects the Indian state of Sikkim to Tibet Autonomous Region in China. Nathu means "listening ears" and La means "pass" in Tibetan. This pass has historical importance and in 1904, Major Francis Young husband, serving as the British Commissioner to Tibet, led a successful mission through Nathu La to capture Lhasa. It is guarded on both sides by the Chinese and Indian soldiers.
How to Reach Gangtok
By Air: Bagdogra is the nearest airport to Darjeeling. From Gangtok the distance of this airport is about 123 km. It takes about 4 ½ hours to drive from Darjeeling to Bagdogra. This airport can be reached from the metropolitan cities of India.
By Rail: The nearest railway station to Gangtok is New Jalpaiguri or NJP. The distance between Gangtok and NJP is almost 88 km. It is the most important railhead of the region. This railway station can be reached from the major cities of India. The famous toy train can be taken from New Jalpaiguri to reach the hill station. It is a wonderful experience taking a ride of this train and enjoying the surrounding picturesque scenario.
By Road: Bus services are available for tourists. After reaching Siliguri bus can be taken to reach Gangtok By availing the Tenzing Norgay Road, which is known as NH-55 Darjeeling can be reached from Siliguri, NJP and Bagdogra. It merely takes some more than 3 hours to reach Darjeeling via NH-55. Private taxis may be hired for this journey.

White Water Rafting in Teesta River

Ropeway Cable Ride in Gangtok
This is one of the greatest attractions in Gangtok and should not be missed. It's a double-cable zig back ropeway which is operational since December 2003. Each cable car can carry up to 24 passengers. This rope way of about 1 km long has three entry points or stops. The lowest point is at Deorali market and the highest point is at Tashiling (below the state secretariat ). There is a midpoint stop at Nam-Nang. One can enter from any point and return to same point after touching other two points. Thongsha Gompa: Tharpa Choling Monastery is Thongsa or Bhutan Monastery. Thongsha Gompa is the oldest Gompa built during the Bhutanese period, in 1692.
Tharpa Choling Monastery: Tharpa Choling Monastery belongs to the Gelukpa sect and is on the way to Dr. Grahm Homes. Tharpa Choling Monastery was built in 1937 and is the repository of old scriptures and documents.

Flower orchid and exotic flora nurseries: The name of Kalimpong has become synonymous with flower nurseries many of which abound here. Gladioli, orchids, cacti, amaryllis, anthuriums, roses, gerberas, dahlias and other exotic plants are grown in a number of flower nurseries in Kalimpong, mainly for export. There are excellent views of snow peaks, Kalimpong town and the Teesta Valley. Two big reservoirs here are the source of water supply to the town of Kalimpong below.
Places to visit in Pelling
Khecheopalri Lake: Khecheopalri Lake is situated in the north-west direction of Pelling and is considered as a holy lake by Buddhists as well as Hindus. It is very popular by many names like Kha-Chot-Palri, Wishing Lake and Sho Dzo Sho.
Pemayangtse Monastery: Pemayangtse Monastery is a famous Buddhist monastery. The Monastery was constructed in the 17th century by Lama Lhatsun Chempo. It is believed that at first it was very small in size and soon after the monastery was renovated by Jigme Pawo, One of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim.
Singshore Bridge: Singshore Bridge is situated at a distance of 5 Kms from Pelling. It was laid by connecting two hills 16 years ago and is the highest bridge of Sikkim and second highest bridge in Asia.
Sangachoeling Monastery: Sangachoeling Monastery is an awesome place to visit. The Monastery is situated at a distance of 3 Kms from south west of Pelling and was built by Lhatsun Ankh Sigma in the year 1695.

Tiger Hill: The Tiger Hills is the highest peak in Darjeeling and offers a splendid view of the Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest. Due to the proximity with three international borders, Darjeeling is strategically a very important place. Darjeeling is known worldwide for its toy train. It is one of the few remaining steam powered trains in the world. It comes from Siliguri and takes six to seven hours to cover a distance of 82 kms. It gives enough opportunity to enjoy nature and see beautiful waterfalls and streams as it passes through deep green valleys, mountain passes, tea gardens and tunnels.
Observatory Hill: Observatory Hill is a famous view point and tourist attraction in Darjeeling. The location is famous for its magnificent views of Kanchendzonga and the ancient temple dedicated to Mahakaal or Lord Shiva.
Batasia Loop: Batasia Loop can be visited when the famous ‘Toy Train’ makes its way across a looped track those transverses through some beautiful parks. Ghoom Monastery: The Ghoom Gompa was founded by a Mongolian astrologer/monk in the year 1875. The place is also well-known as Yogachoeling Gompa. One is greeted by a huge 'Maitreya Buddha' statue at the entrance gate of the Gompa. Visitors also find bells, ornate thanks scrolls as well as drums inside the Gompa.
