How to reach Delhi to Nainital

By Flight:  There is no direct connectivity between Delhi to Nainital, there is no airport are available in Nainital. Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, is the nearest commercial airport to Nainital. As every flight of all domestic and international airlines connect Delhi with rest of the world, travelers can board a flight till Delhi if they are travelling to Nainital. Private taxis from Delhi can be hired to reach Nainital.

By Bus:  Delhi to Nainital buses is available. The distance Delhi to Nainital is 300 km by road. It would take around 9 hours. Buses are the popular mode of transport between the two places and the ride is also very scenic. Buses ply regularly between the two places and there are also private buses that can be taken.

By Train: There is no railway station found in Nainital. You can take a train to Kathgodam which will take 7hours and then drive for another 45 min to reach Nainital. There are no direct trains between the two towns as is no station in Nainital.

Pangot and Kilbury Bird Sanctuary

Pangot is a small and scenic hamlet, which falls under the district administration of Nainital. The region consists of several creeks, where animals like Leopard, Civet, Goral and Deer reside.


The Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES) is a state observatory, situated amidst tranquil environs atop a hill. Earlier known as UPSO and State Observatory (SO), the observatory finally started functioning as ARIES on 22nd March 2004.ARIES has latest equipment like powerful optical telescopes.

Eco Cave Garden

Eco Cave Garden is a cluster of interconnected caves and hanging gardens, which are one of the popular tourist attractions of the hill station. There are six underground caves in this garden, connected through tunnels. Named after various wild animals that they resemble, some of these caves are so narrow.

It is the only wildlife establishment of its kind in the state of Uttarakhand. Nestled in the Sher ka Danda Hills, perched at an altitude of 2100 metres above the sea level, it covers a total geographical area of 4.693 hectares.

Nanda Devi Mela - September

Celebrated with great zeal, the Nanda Devi mela is organised in September in most parts of the Kumaon region, Nainital being one of them. Apart from the song and dance, huge markets as well as some rides are put up near the Nanda Devi Temple.

Autumn Festival/Sharad Utsav - October

Every year in the month of October, a grand fair is organised where cultural programs, folk dances, theatre performances and musical shows are held. Apart from these, different art and craft items are created by the local artisans.


What was once a local belief, soon turned into a celebration called PhoolDeli in Nainital. During this festival, many young girls put season’s first flower at the entrance of their respective houses which they believe, marks an auspicious beginning throughout the year.

Mukteshwar temple

Mukteshwar temple is an ancient temple which is almost 350 years old. It is situated on the top of the hill in Mukteshwar and lies approximately 2312 m above the sea level. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, and the temple also consists of a Shiva Linga of white marble. The temple is beautiful and is identified as one of the eighteen most important temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in the Hindu scriptures.

Chauthi Ki Jaali

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

It is the home of 200 species of bird, Barking Deer, Himalayan bear, leapord, fox, musk deer, langur, porcupine, flying squirrel, chital, jungle cat etc. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is dense and animals are easy to spot. Binsar wildlife sanctuary is spread over an area of 47.79square kilometers. It was established in the year 1988. Pine, oak and rhododendron trees are found in abundant amount at Binsar Wildlife sanctuary.

Binsar Zero Point

Zero point offers unparalleled panoramic view of the magnificent Himalayan range. Zero Point, located inside the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is the highest accessible point of the sanctuary. Golu Devta Temple

Temple is located at a distance of approximately 4 kilometer from the main gate of Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. This temple is dedicated to the popular deity of Kumaon and it is believed that Golu Devta grants offer quick justice to his devotees. The puja in this temple extends either for three days or for nine days. During these prayers, Golu Devta is offered Milk, Ghee, Curd, Poori, Halwa and Pakauri along with a head of goat sacrificed goat head.

Bineshwar Temple

It is a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Bineshwar is the major crowd puller of Binsar. A visit in this sacred temple of 13th century is a must. This temple was constructed by King Kalyan of the Chand Dynasty. It is one of the important sightseeing attractions in Binsar is a temple. According to the legend, it is believed that due to this temple, the entire region was named as Binsar. Besides being a religious place, the temple is also known for its architectural excellence. Khali Estate

There is an estate near Binsar called Khali estate, it was once the home of Sir Henry Ramsay, who was the commissioner of Kumaun from 1856 to 1884 and popularly called by British authors as "King of Kumaun". He also built his bungalow at Binsar. Vijay Laxmi Pandit, the sister of Jawahar Lal Nehru, also lived here. Khali Estate, sprawling over an area of 26 acres, is set amidst the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. Pinnath is known for its temple of the same name which is located at the foot of the Gopalkot Peak and the upper portion of the Kosi Valley. The south of the temple lies a door, and is adorned with figures of rajahs on its walls. Indian arch, which has representations of the five Pandavas on its sides, form the roof of the portico. The Anasakti Ashram is the place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed during the time he wrote the Anasakti Yog and it is also known as the “Gandhi Ashram”. The Ashram houses a museum that contains Mahatma Gandhi’s photographs and his writings.

Sumitranandan Pant Gallery

It is dedicated to the Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant, whose birth place is Kausani. The museum showcases his manuscripts of the poems and draft copies of his literary works. Collections of the museum also include over hundreds of English and Hindi books, displayed in glass shelves, the museum has become an interesting place for literature lovers. Every year, to mark the birth anniversary of the famous poet, a poetry conference is organized in this museum.
