Mahavatar babaji history
There are no historical records relating to the birth and life of Mahavatar Babaji. Paramahansa Yogananda has written in Autobiography of a Yogi that the deathless avatar has resided for untold years in the remote Himalayan regions of India, revealing himself only rarely to a blessed few.
It is Mahavatar Babaji who revived in this age the lost scientific meditation technique of Kriya Yoga. In bestowing Kriya initiation on his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya, Babaji said, “The Kriya Yoga that I am giving to the world through you in this nineteenth century is a revival of the same science that Krishna gave millenniums ago to Arjuna; and that was later known to Patanjali and Christ, and to St. John, St. Paul, and other disciples.”
Shortly before Paramahansa Yogananda left for America in 1920, Mahavatar Babaji came to Yoganandaji’s home in Calcutta, where the young monk sat deeply praying for divine assurance regarding the mission he was about to undertake. Babaji said to him: “Follow the behest of your guru and go to America. Fear not; you shall be protected. You are the one I have chosen to spread the message of Kriya Yoga in the West.”
Miracles of Mahavatar babaji
-
The peerless master moves with his group from place to place in the mountains. His small band contains two highly advanced American disciples.
-
After Babaji has been in one locality for some time, he says: “Dera danda uthao.” (“Let us lift our camp and staff.”) He carries a symbolic danda (bamboo staff).
-
His words are the signal for moving with his group instantaneously to another place. He does not always employ this method of astral travel; sometimes he goes on foot from peak to peak.
-
Babaji can be seen or recognized by others only when he so desires. He is known to have appeared in many slightly different forms to various devotees — sometimes without beard and moustache, and sometimes with them.
-
As his undecaying body requires no food, the master seldom eats. As a social courtesy to visiting disciples, he occasionally accepts fruits, or rice cooked in milk and clarified butter
Mahavatar babaji cave
Babaji Cave is situated in the Mountain of Dunagiri (near village Kukuchina), Dist-Almora, Utarakhand. Lahiri Mahasaya learned technique of Kriya Yoga from Babaji Maharaj 1861
How to reach Mahavatar babaji cave

From Kathgodam the route goes via Ranikhet and Dwarahat and Dunagiri. From Dwarahat, Dunagiri is close to 20 km. and you can go to the YSS ashram at Dwarahat and request them for a guide to accompany you to Babaji cave, they may help you.
Mahavatar babaji meditation
Kriya Yoga is described by its practitioners as the ancient Yoga system revived in modern times by Mahavatar Babaji through his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya, c. 1861 and later Sri Yukteswar Giri and his disciple Paramahansa Yogananda. To Westerners, it was brought into popular awareness through Paramahansa Yogananda's book Autobiography of a Yogi and through Yogananda's introductions of the practice in the west since 1920 and India since 1917.
"Offering the inhaling breath into the exhaling breath and offering the exhaling breath into the inhaling breath, the yogi neutralizes both breaths; thus he releases prana from the heart and brings life force under his control."
-
"Kriya Yoga consists of body discipline,
-
Mental control and meditating on “Aum"
