Start the tour from Mumbai Airport / Railway station and drive to Khandala. It is around 80 km and take 2 hours to arrive. After arrival visit some local sightseeing of Khandala Tiger Leap and Amrutanjan Point, Bhushi Dam. In Between your visit have lunch at Sheel Da Dhabha.  After that proceed to lonavala and check into hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Tiger's Leap: This is a popular tourist point, leaving tourists in awe with the wondrous view from over 650m. The echo point is a major fascination.  It has got it's name from its appearance of that like a tiger leaping into the valley. The site is frequented by various tourists for indulging in adventure activities like rafting, when the stream flow is medium. Perfect for trekking, this site encloses safe spots for viewing the valley and its nearby surroundings.

Rajmachi Point: Rajmachi Point is located on the way to Mumbai from Pune, just before the starting point of the ghat, which is 6.5 km from Lonavala. Midway between Lonavala and Khandala is a fort by the name of Rajmachi Fort, a prominent landmark that watches over some of the most breathtakingly beautiful and wide sceneries of the region.

Bushi Dam: Bushi Dam is located a few kilometres from Lonavala and is a very popular weekend hangout for the people of Mumbai and Pune. Tourists come over from various places to visit the waterfalls, which are formed when the water gushes out through the dam during the monsoon months.

Tiger Point: Tiger Point, which is also called as Tiger’s Leap, offers spectacular views of forests, lush greenery, waterfalls and lakes around Perfect for trekking, this site encloses safe spots for viewing the valley and its nearby surroundings.

Tikona: A prominent hill fort in Lonavala, Tikona is also one of its most important places to visit. Tikona literally means ‘Triangle Fort’. The summit of the fort being shaped like a pyramid, makes up for it being easily recognizable even from a distance. The fort is a trekking destination noted for the large doors, the temple of 'Trimbakeshwar Mahadev', a water tanks (seven water tanks) and some Satvahan caves. Trek organizers also commend the views of Pawna dam and the nearby forts of Tung, Lohagad and Visapur

 

Kamshet: Kamshet has emerged from being a small hamlet of little importance to being a mecca for adventure lovers and adrenaline seekers. The landscape is perfect for all adventure seekers. Especially for paragliding, trekking and hiking. Located at a short distance away from Lonavala. The calm and green hills and languid lakes make it an ideal holiday destination that is adorned every tiny embellishment of nature.

 

Pawna Dam: Pawna Dam is one of the most amazing places to see near Lonavala. Built over the Pavna River, it is an important development in terms of its prominence for the agricultural produce of the land. Located near Lohagad, The waters of the river and dam are perfect for boating, speed boating, water skiing and water jet rides. Lohagad Fort: Situated at a height of 3400 ft, Lohagad Fort is a formidable fort about 52 km away from Pune. Built in the 18th century, it makes for an ideal destination for trekking and nature lovers, especially from Pune and Mumbai. The trek to the fort is an easy one and perfect for the first timers. The place is flanked by nature at its best, lush green grassland, panoramic views and cool mountain air. 
Located at a drive of 1 km is its twin fort called Visapur Fort, which is also one of the popular trekking spots. If you are seeking a light adventure, the place holds the perfect solution.

Bedsa caves: Bhedsa caves are one of the oldest caves of Maharashtra, dating back to 60 BC. These are situated on a sloppy hilly location. Known for their beautiful, exquisite carvings, the caves contain four 25 feet high pillars.

Kune Waterfalls: The beautiful Kune Waterfalls are the 14th highest in the country. This one is an interesting three tiered waterfall having a total height of 200m. A popular picnic spot, the area is surrounded by lush greenery. One can also enjoy swimming and bathing in the water.

Best time to visit Lonavala 

The best time to visit Lonavala is between the months of October and May when winter season starts because Maharashtra state is said to be warmer so it is best to visit in winter season. But avoid to visit in Monsoon season because Lonavala is full with greenery so rainfall occurs heavily here, so it is not correct to visit in monsoon season.

Shopping in Lonavala Khandala

The different kinds of 'chikkis' you get here are delicious and no visitor should leave without carrying home a bagful of them! Lonavala and Khandala are also well known for their canned jams and snacks like 'chivda', wafers and 'sev', so be sure to buy several packets. Shop at Maganlals, A1 or Coopers for the eatables.

Food in Lonavala Khandala

Restaurants and eating places are aplenty in both these places. One can choose from mouthwatering Gujarati food to mint vada paos and freshly roasted corn on the cob which are a specialty and sold by hawkers all over the twin towns. Kamat's at Lonavla is a popular restaurant which serves south indian food.

How to Reach Pune

By Air: Lonavala & Khandala do not have airports so one has to fly to Bombay or to Pune. The nearest international airport is Bombay (110 km) and domestic airport is Pune (66km).

By Rail: The railways bring Khandala and Lonavala to life, connecting trains are available from Mumbai Central Station and Pune Junction. All the trains halt at Khandala before travelling onto to Lonavala.

By Bus: The Mumbai-Bangalore National Highway connecting southern and western India passes through Khandala -Lonavala. The drive winds its way up tiers of ghats including the arduous Khopoli - Khandala Ghat. Within a short distance of 8 km the road ascends to a height of 369 m but the picturesque countryside makes it worth it all. State roadways buses, private buses, taxis and tour operators have regular services to the hill resorts of Lonavala & Khandala.

Distance between Pune to Lonavala is 68 km by Road and 64 km by Rails. Aerial distance is 54 km. After Arival at pune Airport Railway satation board a cab to proceed for lonavala . It will take 1 to 2 hours to arrive and cost upto Rs.1500

The driving distance between Lonavala and Mumbai is 83 km, while the aerial distance from Lonavala to Mumbai is 64 km.By Train it is 28 Km.

Karla Caves

The Karla Caves are a reflection of the mesmerizing beauty of the past carved and decorated with great details. The place is a paradise for history lovers and adventure buffs. Carved into a rocky hillside, Karla caves are among the oldest Buddhist cave shrines in India. Located on the Pune-Mumbai highway at Karla, these caves are claimed to be among scores of other caves unearthed in Sahyadri Hills. One can spot a major ancient trade route near the caves running towards east from the Arabian Sea into the Deccan. It is so because the early Buddhists used to settle the monasteries close to the major trading routes in order to provide shelters to the traveling traders.
