There is no direct transportation service to Chail, so you have to reach Shimla first. To reach Shimla, you have many options like flight, bus, taxi and train. The nearest airport is Jubbarhatti, 22 km from Shimla. Flights from Delhi to Shimla are regular.

Indian Railway connects up to Kalka. From here a UNESCO recognised Heritage Toy Train connects to Shimla. Traveling in the Toy train is an experience in itself as it starts its journey at 656 meters above sea level in Kalka and reaches Shimla at an altitude of 2076 meters.

You can also take a bus from Delhi towards Shimla. Both private and state buses connect Shimla to all the major cities including Delhi, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Kalka and many more. From Shimla take a bus or hire a cab up to your destination, Chail.

After having breakfast, start sightseeing tour of Chail. Take a cab to the Heritage Chail Palace. It is famous for its architecture and was a royal residence for years. Spanning over 75 acres of land, the palace houses an orchard, elegant lawns, tennis and badminton courts, children’s park and quaint log cottages. The palace offers a spectacular view of Shimla city. The surrounding area of Chail Palace are popular for trekking and angling.

The cricket ground near palace is at an altitude of 2,444 m, was owned by the former royal family of Patiala. It is the world's highest cricket ground. After visiting royal palace and cricket ground, go for a walk to the Sidh Baba temple built by the Maharaja of Patiala.  

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary attracts a large number of nature lovers and wildlife photographers. You can spot a wide variety of flora and fauna that includes animals like Himalayan black deer, sambar, common langur, goral, wild boar, among others.

How to Reach Shimla

By Flight: The nearest airport to Shimla is situated at Jubbarhatti, 22 kms from Shimla has regular flights from Delhi but due to bad weather conditions, flights may be irregular. Alternatively better option is to reach Chandigarh Airport at a distance of 120 Kms away, from Chandigarh, you can board Holiday Travel Taxi to reach Shimla in approx 2.5-3 hours.

By Toy Train from Kalka: From Kalka, the Narrow-Gauge Kalka-Shimla Unesco - Heritage Toy Train connects to Shimla. The total distance covered is 96 kms from Kalka to Shimla with 107 Tunnels & 864 Bridges. The Shimla toy train starts Journey at 656 meters (2,152 ft) above sea level in Kalka and reaches Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters.

The route offers a panoramic feast of the picturesque Himalayas from the Shivalik foot hills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, Solan, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Barog, Salogra,  Summer hill and Shimla. The Railway has 919 curves, the sharpest being 48 degrees. The journey takes about five-and-a-half hours to reach Shimla.

By Train: Indian Railways connects up-to Kalka (about 100kms from shimla) by broad-gauge line. The Kalka station is connected to most major cities in India, including Delhi and Calcutta.

Chail Cricket Ground: The Chail cricket stadium Of Himachal Pradesh is the highest cricket ground in the world. This cricket pitch is 2444 meters above sea level.
