How to reach Dehradun
By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is located at a distance of 22 kilometers from the city centre. Flights from Delhi connect to Dehradun. Delhi, located 235 km from Dehradun connects to most major cities in the country and around the world by air.
By Train: Dehradun is connected by regular train services to cities Delhi, Lucknow, Allahabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ujjain, Chennai and Varanasi. The Dehradun Railway Station is located 1-2 kilometers away from the city centre and should take you only ten minutes, depending on traffic. Dehradun is connected to the rest of the country by trains such as the Shatabdi Express, Jan Shatabdi Express, Dehradun AC Express, Doon Express, Bandra Express and the Amritsar-Dehradun Express among others.
By Road: State owned buses connect Dehradun to almost all the major cities in Uttarakhand. Private and public buses ply very frequently between Dehradun and Delhi. Apart from that buses also ply from Agra, Kullu, Shimla to Dehradun.
When to visit Dehradun
Dehradun can be visited almost throughout the year. An ideal season for a trip to Dehradun is the summer (April - June) season when the climate is pleasant. Monsoon and autumn season are also worth visiting, but winters are not exactly the season advisable for a visit unless you love the snow.
Climate of Dehradun
Winter (November - March)
Winter have a maximum of 22 °C and a minimum of about 3 °C. This is the least advisable time for a visit, owing to the frigid temperatures. However, if you're a snow enthusiast, and are raring to go, then it is advisable that you set off with proper precautions, especially in the case of clothes. You should be packed with woolens for the same.
Summer (April - June)
Summer have a maximum temperature of 35 °C and a minimum of 17 °C. Most of the tourists prefer this period for visiting Dehradun as it is best for adventure and sightseeing. It is in fact, the perfect season for Dehradun tourism. This is the peak season for tourism in Dehradun and also an ideal season for a visit for the same. Sahastradhara
Sahastradhara is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Uttarakhand placed in Dehradun. It is situated at about 11 km from the city of Dehradun. Sahastradhara meaning 'thousand fold spring' is popular for its ecstatic beauty and therapeutic value since its water contains Sulphur. The place is beautiful, where water drips from limestone stalactites, making the water sulphur rich and thus is also known as sulphur springs. The water is cool and sweet, and the area is a warehouse of excellent beauty by caves, waterfalls and steppe farming by locals.
Robber's Cave
Robber's cave is also known as Gucchipani. Robber's cave is basically in the form of a cave with water flowing from the middle of it. One can spot a 10m high waterfall after walking through the stream of the river. Only after completing a trek of about 1 km passing through the Anarwala village can one reach the destination. It is a perfect location for the adventurous and fun loving lot of people.
Malsi Deer Park
Malsi Deer Park located at the base of Shivalik range, Malsi Deer Park is a zoological garden and it is home to two horned Deer, Tiger, Neelgai, Peacock and many other animals. This well maintained zoological garden is an ideal place for picnic.
Zonal Museum
The Zonal Museum was founded in the year 1971 situated on Haridwar Road. The museum is popular for its collection of artifacts relating to the origin, development and sustenance of the mankind on earth, and stands witness to the ancient living conditions and customs of its people. Zonal Museum opens for the public from 10 am to 5 pm except on holidays, second Saturdays and Sundays.
Tapkeshwar Temple
Tapkeshwar Temple is a must visit place for religious buffs out there. Temple is located on the Garhi Cantonment Road, approximately 7.5 km. from Dehradun Railway station. The temple is dedicated to lord shiva and is built on a natural cave. The temple is basically situated on the bank of a river which makes the entire spot even more beautiful and holy. The place gathers a great amount of religious and history fanatic crowd over the year. A large festival is held on the occasion of Mahashivratri, in the months of February and March.
Tapovan
Tapovan is a holy place which is located at a distance of 5 km from the Dehradun city. It is situated on the bank of the river Ganga. It is a very famous place to go for the purpose of meditation and to escalate one's spirit. The Tapovan ashram also conducts yoga courses for the interested ones. Those who like adventures can go for trekking in Tapovan since it is situated just above the glacier of Gangotri making it a perfect spot.
Mindrolling Monastery
Mindrolling means "Place of Perfect Emancipation" in Tibetan language. The monastery is dedicated to the learning of Buddhist scriptures, Tibetan lunar calendar, astronomy, Traditional Tibetan medicine and calligraphy. It is the largest Buddhist Vihara of India, training monks for over 300 years. Ngagyur Nyingma College, one of the biggest Buddhist institutions in India is housed on its campus.
Rajaji National Park
It is situated along the hills and foothills of Shiwalik ranges in the Himalayan foothills. Combining three sanctuaries, namely Chilla, Motichur and Rajaji - Rajaji National Park is spread over the Pauri Garwal, Dehradun and Saharanpur districts of Uttarakhand. Rajaji National Park of India spreads over an area of 820.42 sq km and is open to visitors only from Mid-November to Mid-June. There are also several animals in the Park like the Tiger, Leopard, Himalayan Bear, Cheetah, hog deer, barking deer, Leopard Cat, Civets, Himalayan Yellow-Throated Marten, Sloth Bears, Pythons, King Cobra, Common Krait, Indian Cobra and the Monitor Lizard, Asian Elephant and many more.

Tiger Falls
Tiger Falls is counted amongst the few largest waterfalls in India and is a great Chakrata attraction. It originates at a height of 312 feet, and has a beautiful view with forests at the back. Budher Caves
At a distance of about 30 km from Chakrata, lies the Budher cave, also known as Miola caves. The cave is believed to be dug by Pandavas during their "Vanvaas" or exile before the Mahabharata War was fought.
