Rudraprayag at a height of 610 meters is a small town and this town has lot of religious significance. This town is located at junction of three hill districts Chamoli, Tehri & Pauri. Lord Shiva temple is known as Rudranath here. Narad Muni meditated here for several years and got the blessings of Lord Shiva. There is a temple of goddess Jagadamba Devi in this town. Rudraprayag confluence of rivers, this town is at a distance of 40 km. from Srinagar located at the confluence of two rivers Alaknanda & Mandakini.

What is unique in Rudraprayag

Rudraprayag is Confluence of Barinath & Kedarnath Dham, as river Alaknanda which starts from Alakpuri glacier comes from Badrinath Dham meets River Mandakini, which flows from Kedarnath and joins Alaknanda at this place. After Rudraprayag the river is known as Alaknanda. The district have been able to preserve their culture, folklore, folksongs and folkdances, the last, a distinctive feature of the district, being seasonal, traditional and religious.

 Rudraprayag confluence top beautiful view of this sangam (joining of rivers) point of two rivers is available. This is the best view spot of Rudraprayag. You can visit the tip of the both river joint point were a Lord Shiva temple is there. You need to climb number of steps to reach the water point here. But view of water & sound of river is breathtaking.

History of Rudraprayag

Rudraprayag District was established on 16th September1997. Today’s Garhwal was known as kedar-khand in the past. In puranas kedar-khand was said to be abode of God. The authentic script about the history of Garhwal is found only 6th A.D on word. Some Historian and scientist believe that this land is origin of Arya rac and it is believed that about 300B.C. Khasa invaded Garhwal through Kashmir Nepal and Kuman.  In Kedar-khand Puran this land is regarded the land of lord Shiva. It seems from the facts vedas puranas, Ramayna and Mahabharat that these Hindu scriptures are scripted in kedar-khand. It is believed that God Ganesha first script of vedas in Vayas gufa situated in the last village Mana only four km from Badrinath.

According to Rigveda(1017-19) after Inundation (Jalprlya) Sapt-Rishis saved their lives in the same village Mana. Besides there the roots of vedic literature seems to be originated from Garhwal because the Garhwali language has a lot of words common with sanskrit .The work place of vedic Rishis are the prominent pilgrim places in Garhwal specially in chamoli like Atrimuni Ashram in Anusuya about 25 km. from chamoli town and work place of Kashyap Rishi at Gandhmadan parwat near Badrinath. According to Aadi-Puran vedviyas scripted the story of Mahabhrat in Vyas Gufa near Badrinath which is related to rudrapryag.

When to visit Rudraprayag - Best Season to Visit

The best season to visit Rudraprayag is the winters and the onset of summers. The favorable months to visit the place are between October to March. The climate remains pleasant during these months offering tourists the best holiday experience.

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport to Rudraprayag situated at a distance of 159kms. Jolly Grant Airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights.
