Nashik is a city in the state of Maharashtra in Western India. This is an ancient holy city and some archaeological sites state early human settling evidence from at least five years. Nashik is one of the world's holiest Hindu cities where Kumbhmela is held once in 12 years along with four other cities in India. Lord Rama along with Lakshmana and Sita spent 14 years of his exile at Tapovan near Nashik. The city came under the rule of Mughal in 16th century and was renamed Gulshanabad. Then it comes under Peshwa of Maratha Empire in 1818. City is also noted for its participation in freedom struggle. Freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar and Anant Laxman Kanhere were born in Nashik. Nasik is one city which rose to name in the mythological era and has carried its aura to the present age withstanding the test of time.

Places to visit in Nashik

Sita Gufa: The caves house idols of Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman as well as a Shivling, said to be the one Sita worshipped.   

Pandavleni Caves: There are 24 caves present each of which has been carved out of stone from the period starting from 3rd Century BC to 2nd Century AD. These caves are related to Hinayana of Buddhism. One of the greatest aspects in their architecture is that some of them are connected by unique ladders, cut outs from stone. You can find legible inscriptions in eight caves including third, eleventh, twelfth to fifteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth

Bhakti Dham: Bhakti Dham has come up as one of the must visit pilgrimages for people coming to Nashik. You can hear Vedic recitals over here. Other than poojas, religious discussions also take place here.  You can buy religious books sold at the book stalls of Bhakti Dham. It is located 60 km away from Nashik town, in the small village of Nanduri. Large numbers of people visit this place on a daily basis. Many call this place "3 and Shakti Peetha" in the state of Maharashtra.

Veer Savarkar Smarak: Veer Savarkar created this National Memorial on his memory. In fact, a Memorial Committee was also formed. It is spread over a land area of 6,650 square meters, which was given by Municipal Corporation on a lease-rent basis. Smarak is keeping no stones unturned in propagating the thoughts of ultra Hinduism throughout India. Some of the basic preaching include reconversion of people who had converted to other religion from Hinduism, militarization, martial arts teaching. 

Someshwar: There are temples of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman on the banks of the river Godavari at Someshwar. This is a very green place as well as the climate is so cool. this place is favourite for film shootings. There is a village named Anandwalli on the way to Someshwar. There is Navasha Ganapati Temple in this village.

Takli: Takli is connected to the Guru of Chatrapati Shivaji, saint Samarth Ramdas. 'Simple living and high thinking' was the mantra what he was preaching. He also promoted the Hindu religion. Ramdas ran off from his marriage life and settled down at Takli for meditation. Ramdas Swami's ashram is preserved in his memory at Takli. There is also a Hanuman Temple on the bank of river Nandini or Nasardi.

Panchvati: Holy land for the believers of Ramayana, Panchvati attracts a lot of pilgrims. A serene town located near Nasik. the place holds a lot of religious significance even in the present day, The Kumbh Mela takes place on the river banks of Godavari, and has a surplus of pilgrims from every corner of world during the occasion.
