Mahabaleshwar is a city and a municipal council in Satara district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a hill station located in the Western Ghats range. With one of the few evergreen forests of India, Winding roads, a cool breeze at all times, vantage points offering breathtaking views of hills and valleys, Mahabaleshwar is a vast plateau measuring 150 kilometers, bound by valleys on all sides. It reaches a height of 1,439 meters at its highest peak above sea level, known as Wilson or Sunrise Point. Mahabaleshwar comprises three villages: Malcolm Peth, Old ‘Kshetra’ Mahabaleshwar and part of a village called Shindola. The second-highest peak in Mahabaleshwar is Connaught Peak and gets its name from the Duke of Connaught. Some of the other points that you must visit are Monkey Point, Carnac Point, Falkland Point, Helen’s Point, Elphinstone Point, Mumbai Point, Marjorie Point and Babbington Point. For boating you must head to the Venna Lake. During the monsoon, waterfalls such as Lingmala Falls and Dhobi Falls come alive, adding to the scenic splendor of the place.

Mahabaleshwar Temple: The Mahabaleshwar Temple is also known as The Mahabali. It is yet another exquisite example of Maratha heritage of Mahabaleshwar and was built by Chanda Rao More in the 16th century. The architecture of this temple is built in the South Indian Hemadanta style. The temple also houses Shiva's bed, damru and trishul which date back to approximately 300 years. It is believed that every morning, the bedsheet is found crumpled indicating Shiva's presence at night within the temple. The temple has a serene, tranquil and peaceful ambience.

Pratapgarh Fort: Pratapgad Fort is the pride of Maratha Empire. The ecstatic monument was built in 1656 is known for the battle between one of finest warriors of their times Afzal Khan and Shivaji. At that point of time the former was the General of Bijapur and died here. The fort is built atop a hill. It houses a Mahadev Temple in its upper fort and a temple dedicated to Goddess Bhavani in its lower fort. One can also cite a dargah dedicated to Afzal Khan situated near the fort. Panchganga Temple: The Panchganga Temple is constructed at the confluence of five rivers, Krishna, Veena, Savitri, Koyna and Gayatri. The temple is of major religious importance and is therefore visited by devotees throughout the year. The five rivers flow out of the gaumukhi. An idol of Lord Krishna can be seen inside the temple since it is dedicated to him. The Panchganga Temple was constructed by Raja Singha Deo who was the ruler of the Yadavs of Devagiri. The temple owes much of its present grandeur to these two great warriors.

Tiger’s spring: The natural thermal spring near River Savitri, it is believed to be infused with spiritual powers.
