Events at South India

• As Kanchi is spotted with temples, several religious festivals are celebrated all through the year.

• If you are interested in gaining an experience of those glorious processions, plan your trip accordingly. Mainly the celebrations are stretched from January to March. The Tamil month of Thai falls in the month of January.

• Starting from the full moon day Theppa Utsavam is carried out for another three days when the daity is taken to Nirazhi Mandapam which is made in the middle of the pond inside the temple premises in a float.

• Along with the daity, children and knowledgable priests known as Nadaswaram Vidwans ride on the float. A twenty one day long celebration is held during February and March. This is known as Masi Mahotsavam. 'Masi' is the name of the Tamil month that falls within February and March.

• At Kamalakshi Amman Temple the daity is taken on a well decorated ratha (vehicle) for a procession during morning and evening. The festival is organized in two parts, former lasts for twelve days while the later goes for nine days.

•  Panguni Uthairam Thirukalyanam is another prime festival where a fourteen days long celebration is organized to perform Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati's wedding ceremony.

Float Festival – at Varadaraja Temple in February and November

Panguni Uthiram – at Ekambareshwara Temple in March-April
