Best time to visit Kushnagar

Kushinagar is a small pilgrim town located in the state of Uttar Pradesh close to the Nepal border. Dotted with temples, monasteries and stupas, the town is believed to be the final resting place of Lord Buddha and is frequented by tourists and Buddhists alike from all parts of the world. Kushinagar is situated in the Gangetic plain and therefore has a sub-tropical climate characterised by a scorching summer and a pleasant winter. It also receives heavy rainfall in between. Summer season starts from the month of March and lasts till May. The air is hot and humid and the temperature goes soaring throughout this period. The average temperature varies from anything between 25?Celsius to 45?Celsius. Considering the extreme climatic condition cotton clothes are most appropriate during this time. Monsoon season from June to August comes as a relief after the sweltering summer and brings down the temperature. Though it is humid the climate is a little pleasant during the monsoon season. The winter season in Kushinagar is quite cool and moderate. It starts from the month of October and lasts till February. The average temperature varies from 28?Celsius to 5?Celsius making it an ideal time to pay a visit to the sacred town. Light woollen wear is recommended while visiting Kushinagar during the winter season. Being an ancient town dotted with numerous historical monuments one of the main tourist activities in Kushinagar is sightseeing. By Road: Nearest railhead Gorakhpur, the headquarter of North Eastern Railway, is 51 Km and is connected to all major cities of India while Deoria railway station is 35 km. Kushinagar is not connected with rail so one has to go to Gorakhpur by road to catch the trains.

By Rail :    Kushinagar is connected only by road. U.P. Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses as well as privates buses are plying from Gorakhpur or taxi can be hired from Gorakhpur through travel agents.
By Air: Air strip Kasia (5 km) is under construction. Gorakhpur Airport is 45 km away but it does not have regular flights from the rest of India. Lucknow (Amausi Airport)-252 km while Varanasi (Babatpur Airport) 288 km. This airport acts as the primary airport for Kushinagar.

 Near by Attractions in Kushinagar

Nirvana Stupa and temple - This stupa made of bricks, excavated by Carlleyl in 1867, stands at a height of 2.74 meter. The excavations leading to the finding of the copper vessel and the Brahmi inscription on it proving the matter that Buddhas ashes were buried in the pace, made this place a suddenly important destination for all Buddhists devotees. Besides, the huge reclining statue of Buddha in the temple is also very attractive.

Mahaparinirvana temple - This is more than 6 meters long statue of reclining Buddha. The image was unearthed during the excavations of 1876. Carved from Chunar sandstone, the statue represents the dying Buddha reclining on his right side.

Buddha - Kushinagar Wat Thai temple - The unique temple, built to celebrate the victory of King Bhumibol's great accession of the throne, and the subsequent Golden Jubilee, is worth a watch, especially because of the innumerable trees that were planted here.Besides, there's the Chinese temple, the Meditation Park and an International Buddha trust, and the Birla temple to add charm to roaming around in the city.

Ramabhar Stupa - About 1.5 km away from Mahaparinirvana Temple, this large Stupa rises to a height of 49 ft. It marks the site where the Lord Buddha was cremated. In ancient Buddhist texts, this Stupa has been referred to as 'Mukut-Bandhan Vihar'.

Japanese temple - A beautiful eight metals statue of the Buddha, which was brought from from Japan, can be visited here.

Gorakhpur - Gorakhpur is an important Hindu destination, due to the numerous temples, including the Gorakhnath temple, the Vishnu temple, gita Vatika, Gita press, and the Arogya Mandir. Besides, there are important institutions of other religions such as the Imambara. The planetarium and the circuit house are also worth a visit.

Lumbini - This immensely important Buddhist pilgrimage, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is in Nepal, at a distance of 122 km from Gorakhpur, houses some of the most important artifacts of literature and art related to the life of Lord Buddha.

Day 1 :
VARANASI – KUSHINAGAR –(6 – 7 hrs drive)  

Pick up from Varanasi Airport / Railway stn  & Transfer to Kushinagar evening if time permits local in kushinagar Overnight at kushinagr hotel(BIHAR MAIN HOTEL)
Day 2 :
 Lumbini - Sravasti(225 kms and 5.30 hrs drive)

Morning leave for SRVASTI VIA LUMBINI local sightseeing in lumbini & later  proceed to Sravasti where the Buddha preached most of his sermons. Here he is said to have performed many miracles, and levitated. During the monsoon, he used to stay at the Jetavana monastery on the outskirts of this town. Visit Sahet Mahet and Angulimal caves. Overnight stay in Sravasti.
Day 3 :
Sravasti – Lucknow (5 hrsdrive)

sight seeing of Sravasti visit Saheth & Maheth and back to Balrampur & Drive to Lucknow. On arrival in Lucknow check into the hotel. Overnight stay at Lucknow Hotel
