By Air
The Coimbatore International Airport is located in Peelamedu and is 11 km from the main city. There is also an airforce base at Sulur. The airport caters for both domestic and international flights. The city is well connected to the country via regular arrival and departure of flights from major cities. Flights from Sharjah and Singapore are a regular feature at the airport.
By Train
It was in 1852 that the first rail service was started to the city of Coimbatore, and since then the city is well –connected with the major cities in the country via a string network of railways. There are broad gauge trains running from Coimbatore to the rest of the country. The Coimbatore Junction remains busy for most part of the days as it sees influx of trains from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkotta.
By Road
There are seven main roads in the city and three National Highways that run through the city. This string network of roads ensures regular bus service from Coimbatore to nearby towns, villages and cities. There are many main bus stands from where one can take interstate bus services. Private taxis also ply visitors from Coimbatore to other places but these are costlier than the state-run buses.
Best Time To Visit Coimbatore
Summer
Though summers are bearable in Coimbatore, the scorching heat can sometimes turn out to be a big pain and can compel you to stay indoors, especially during the noon. The maximum temperature here can go up to 350C during the peak summer months while the minimum can hover around 210C. March, April and May are the summer months in Coimbatore. Though the period is characterized by sweltering heat, the cool evening wind ameliorates the hot spell and offers immense relief to the people here. Summer is not the best time to hit Coimbatore. However, if you plan to visit the city during the summers, then carry enough light cottons and loads of sunscreen to prevent your skin from getting tanned.
Monsoon
The monsoon hits Coimbatore in the month of October and lasts until November. The monsoon months are marked by frequent roaring cloudburst. However, the showers here is a respite from the blazing summer heat. The scent of wet drenched mud and lush greenery speckled with rain drops doubles up the beauty of the place. The average rainfall received by the land during the time of monsoon is around 61cm.
Winter
December marks the onset of winter season that lasts until February. The winter temperature is hardly ever cold with an average temperature of 150 C. Winter is an ideal time to visit Coimbatore since the weather is mild and pleasant during this time. However, the nights can get a bit chilly and thus, it is advisable to carry a lot of woolens to prevent shuddering chills.

There are a number of picnic spots situated around Coimbatore. Siruvani Waterfalls, about 37 kms west of the city is noted for it's captivating beauty and the sweetness of it's water.The panoramic view of the dam and the falls are of enchanting beauty.
Botanical Garden
Popularly known as Ooty, Udhamandalam was the summer capital of the British rulers in India. The misty blue haze of Nilgiris and the fragrant rain forests lure millions of tourists to Ooty every year. Situated at an altitude of 2268 metres above sea level, it was discovered in the early 18th Century. Snooker is said to have originated on the billiards table of the Ooty Club by an army officer - Neville Chamberlain.
The smaller hill resorts adjoining Ooty - Coonoor & Kotagiri have the same dewy fresh mornings and breezy calm evenings of Ooty. The botanical gardens established by the Marquis of Tweeddale in 1847, continues to be a major attraction.The Ooty flower show and the dog show are popular events held annually. Trout fishing is a popular sport at Avalanche, 24 kms away from Ooty. Other famous spots - Doddabetta, Lamb's rock. Pykara Lake. Accommodation is available in various categories from 5 star to budget hotels and dormitories, but rates vary during peak seasons(Mid May) /off / half seasons.
Mudumalai Wild Life Sanctuary
Situated 67 kms away from Coimbatore, the sanctuary's dense vegetation and favourable climate attract a variety of wild animals like Tigers, Leopards, Elephants, Deer, Snakes, and birds. Elephant rides are a major draw. Dormitory and hotel accommodation are available within the sanctuary.
Kodaikanal
138 kms from Coimbatore, at the southern tip of the Palani Hills, lies Kodaikanal. Dense greenery, crystal clear springs, water falls and misty cool air - Kodai is one of the most popular hill stations in South India. The hill sides abound with the Kurinji flower which blooms once in 12 years .For orchid lovers, there is an orchidorium 6 kms away, having more than 300 varieties of orchids.The Bear shola falls, Silver cascade, Kodai lake, Bryant park, Coaker's Walk & Kukkai cave are some of the other places worth visiting.
Top Slip
A picturesque locale in the Anamalai Hills. It is about 37 Kms. from Pollachi (about 90 Kms from Coimbatore).There are bungalows available within the sanctuary. For thrill seekers, accommodation is also available in a tree house.
Parambikulam-Aliyar
The project consists of a series of dams interconnected by tunnels and canals for harnessing the Parambikulam, Aliyar, Nirar, Sholiyar, Thunakadavu, Thekkadi and Palar rivers, lying at various elevations, for irrigation and power generation. The scheme is an outstanding example of engineering skill. It is located in Anamalai range and is ideal for picnics. Overnight stay is possible in forest rest houses. A tree-top house provides accomodation for the adventurous.
Anamalai Wildlife Sanctuary
This sanctuary is situated at an altitude of 1,400 metres in the western ghats near Pollachi. The area of the sanctuary is 958 Sq. Kms. It has various kinds of exotic fauna like elephant, gaur, tiger, panther, sloth bear, pangolin, black headed oriole, green pigeon and civet cat. The Amaravathy reservoir in the Anamalais has a large number of crocodiles. There are also many places of scenic beauty such as Karain Shola, Anaikunthi shola, Grass hills, waterfalls,groves ,teak forests,estates,dams and reservoirs. Arrangements are available at Topslip to take tourists around the Sanctuary on elephant back or by van.
Thirumurthy Dam
It is situated at the foot of Thirumurthy Hills adjoining the Thirumurthy Dam. This is about 20 kms from Udumalpet on the highway from Palani to Coimbatore. A perennial stream flows by the side of the Amalingeswarar temple and near by there is a water fall. The Crocodile Farm at Amaravathy Dam is nearby. This place is being developed as District Excursion Centre.
The Siruvani Waterfalls and Dam
This Waterfalls and the Dam are about an hour's drive from Coimbatore. The water of Siruvani is known for its taste. The panoramic views of the dam and the falls are enchanting.
Kovai Kutralam Falls, Coimbatore
Kovai Kutralam falls is an exciting water fall situated at Siruvani. The water fall is about 37 kilometers away from Coimbatore city and the water fall is popularly known for its magnificence. The water fall is situated in the center part of the dense forest and due to this reason visitors are not permitted to see the falls after 5 pm. The chief source of drinking water in Coimbatore is supplied by Siruvani. Tourists cannot make their visit to this falls anytime because only few numbers of buses are available to visit the place. With an excellent panoramic view, the dam will be an excellent place to enchant and enjoy.
Monkey Falls, Coimbatore
The Monkey falls is an excellent and ideal outdoor travelogue, which is situated some 65 kilometers away from Coimbatore city and it is some 27 kilometer away from Pollachi on Coimbatore-Pollachi-Valparai main road. The Monkey Falls are the most famous and popular tourism spot. People making their travel in the area of Coimbatore or Pollachi district will never miss to visit Monkey falls are they have an outstanding scenic attraction. This Monkey falls is an ideal place for the little children to take bathe. The entry ticket fee is very low and it just cost 2 Rs to enter inside the falls.
Ayyappan Temple, Coimbatore
The Ayappan temple is located in Sree Ayyappan Road, Sidhapudur of Coimbatore. Records say that the Ayyappan temple was constructed during the year 1976. Also, the temple was built by a trust named Sri Dharma Sastha Baktha Jana Sabha. Actually, the Sri Dharma Sastha Baktha Jana Sabha desired to construct an Ayyappan temple in the Coimbatore city, which is quite akin to the Ayyappan temple in Sabarimala. Finally, all their desires came true! All the poojas and other spiritual practices were keenly observed and followed as done in Sabarimala. This Ayyappan temple opens from early morning 5.00 am to 9.00 pm. Everyday poojas are made during the early hours and also in evening time. Moreover, special poojas are made particularly during the Ayyappa season.
