NAGRI (20Km-Tehsil-Chittorgarh)

        One of the most important townships of the Mauryan era in Rajasthan, situated on the banks of river Bairach.  It  was formerly known as Madhyamika, which flourished from the Maurya to Gupta era. The excavations  overhere have  unearthed many interesting facts and have showed signs of strong Hindu and Buddhist influence.

 

BAROLO (140 Km-Tehsil-Rawatbhata)

        The ruins of the famous temples of babaroli, near Rawatbhata. This town is worth visiting, because of the  group of  ancient temples situated here.

 

BASSI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY(25Km-Tehsil-Chittorgarh)

        The wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 50 Sq.Km. near Bassi village. The key fauna of the sanctuary are  panther,  wild boar, antelopes and mongoose. Migratory birds also visit the sanctuary. For entry into the  sanctuary, prior  permision is to be obtained from the District Forst Officer, Chittaurgarh.

 

SANWARIYA JI TEMPLE (40 Km-Tehsil-Bhadesar)

        The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishn, situated on the Chittaurgarh - Udaipur highway. This is not a very old   structure and is an important Hindu pilgrimage centre.

 

MATRI KUNDIYA TEMPLE (45 Km-Tehsil-Rashmi)

        Also famous as the "Haridwar of Mewar", the shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

 

BHAINSORGARH WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

        The sanctuary lies in the lush green environs of Bhainsrogarh, invaluable archaeological remains can also be  seen  here.

 

BIJAIPUR

        The 350 year old castle built by Rao Shakti Singh, the youngest brother of Maharaja Pratap, is the major   attraction. it has now been covered into a hotel.

 

SITAMATA SANCTUARY

        The sanctuary is dpread over the Aravali and Vindhyachal ranges and is the only forest where teak trees of   building value are found. The thickly vegetated sanctuary has about 50% teak trees besided salar, tendu, amla,   bamboo and bel etc. three rivers flow through the forest Jakham and Karmoi are the major ones. A huge dam has   been constructed over the Jakham river for irrigation, and wild animals in the sanctuary.

        The key fauna of the sanctuary are leopard, hyena, jackal, fox, jungle cat, porcupine, spotted dear, wild bear,  four  horned antelope and nilgai etc.

        The most important and conspicuous animal of the sanctuary is the flying squirrel, which can be observed  gliding  between the trees during night, this nocturnal creatures hides in the daylight, the best time to watch the  squirrel is in  the months of February and March at Arampura Guest House, when most trees shed their leaves  making it easier to  spot the squirrel.

        The sanctuary is also associated with mythological events it is believed that sita wife of Lord Ram stayed here   during the period of her exile in the ashram of Saint Valmiki.

 

DEOGARH (125 Km)

        The 16th century fort near Pratapgarh, is famous for the palaces, their murals and Jain temple.

 

MENAL (90 Km)

        This is also known as the "mini khajauraho", blessed with natures beauty, this picnic spot is situated on the   Chittaur - Bundi raod, and is famous for the ancient temples, waterfalls and beautiful forests.

 

GOTMESHWAR (130 Km)

        The place is famous for the ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

 

JOGNIYA MATA JI

        This temple of Goddess Yogini is said to be 300 years old

By Air:
Udaipur is the nearest airport to Chittorgarh at a distance of 90 km. Udaipur Airport is connected to Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Mumbai and Aurangabad cities. Prepaid taxis and cabs are available to reach Chittorgarh from the airport.

By Rail:
Chittorgarh Railway Station is on the western banks of Gambheri River. Chittorgarh is linked well with other cities of Rajasthan and India. Several trains connect Chittorgarh to Ajmer, Delhi, Agra, Kota, Ahmedabad and Udaipur. Auto-rickshaws, Tongas and local city buses are the commonly used transport in Chittorgarh to reach the center of the town from the Railway station.

By Road:
The central bus terminus of Chittorgarh is located on the Gambheri River western banks. It is linked to National Highway -8 and in turn linked to major cities of Rajasthan and India by RSRTC and other private bus services. Udaipur is just two and half hour drive from Chittorgarh.  Chittorgarh is 309 km from Jaipur, 570 km from Delhi, 422 km from Ahmedabad and 973 km from Mumbai.

Day 1 : Wed. New Delhi- Reporting time 1600 hrs. dep. 1830 hrs.

The journey of life time begins at delhi cantonment station where the guests are accorded a warm traditional welcome before the Palace- on-Wheels pulls out into the night.. for a week long luxury cruise through fascinating rajasthan.

Day 2 : Thu. Jaipur arrival 0200 hrs. dep. 1930 hrs.

The first stop of the Palace-on-wheels is Jaipur, one of the most well planned cities of the world of its time. This capital city of Rajasthan, popularly known as Pink City, was founded by Maharaja sawi jai Singh II in 1727 A.D. After breakfast at board, to explore the city, an airconditioned coach takes you to Hawa Mahal or Place Of winds, which is aremarkable five storyed building. This followed by a visit to Amber fort, eight km away, where rides on captioned elephants ad to the ambeince. After lunch at Palace hotel, you are off to the city palace, home of the erstwhile royal family. right across to the road from the city palace is Jantar Mantar, largest observatory built by Sawai Jai singh II. The lLuxury coaches will take you back to Palace-on-wheels around 6.30 Pm. dinner on board 

Day 3 : Fri Jaisalmer. arrival 0815 hrs. dep. 2300 hrs.

In the heart of the Thar desert lies Jaisalmer, founded by Rawal Jaisal in 1156 A.D. Here the yellow sand stone fort is an imposing sight towering magnificently over the city. discover the paistakingly latticed havelis or mansions with their grand facades . The Nathmalji- ki-Haveli, salim singh-ki-haveli and Patwon-ki-Haveli are the fine examples of the stone carver's skills. After lunch onboard, go for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes of sam, before sipping a refreshing cup of tea. enjoy the dinner and the cultural programmes at hotel in Jaisalmer. the train leaves for Jodhpur at night.

Day 4 : Sat Jodhpur arrival 0700 hrs. dep. 1530 hrs.

Next morning the Palace-on-wheels is in jodhpur, a city ringed by a high stone wall with seven gates and several bastions. This second largest city of Rajasthan, founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 A.D. is known for its rock solid Mehrangarh fort. The grand palaces within Moti Mahal, sheesh mahal, phool Mahal, sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are impressive examples of architetural excellence. Near the fort comples lies Jaswant Thada, and group of royal cenotaphs made of Marble. After lunch at Palace hotel, return to the Palace-on-wheels.

Day 5 : Sun Sawai Madhopur arrival 0400 hrs. dep. 1030 hrs

One can almost sense a life of the wilderness, as the palace-on-wheels arrives in Sawai Madhopur, a city named after founder Maharaja sawai Madho singh I. After breakfast at board visit the Ranthambhore National park wherein are located the ruines of the 10th century fort. The wildlife sanctuary is considered to be the country's best for observing and photographing the activities of the Tiger. Upon retuns to the Palace-on-wheels, you leave for Chittaurgarh, when one gets an opportunity to watch the colourful countryside passing by in the daylight. 

Day 5 : Sun Chittaurgarh arrival 1600 hrs.

After lunch at board you are in Chittaurgarh. Images of love and valour, scars of battles lost and won.... thrice beseiged, Chittaurgarh Fort is all this and more. Moving legends of honour and pride will echo in your minds as you proceed to Udaipur. 

Day 6 : Mon Udaipur Dep. 2000 hrs. from Chittaurgarh

The luxury Coaches will take you to udaipur, the Lake City, the next morning. it was founded by maharana Udai singh of Mewar, after the sisodia dynasty was driven away by the mughals, in 1559 A.D.. perhaps the two most beautiful sites of udaipur are dream like marble Palaces- Jag Niwas (LAKE PALACE) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from blue waters of Lake Pichola. After lunch at Lake Palace hotel, a visit to the City Palace is exhilarating. The luxury coach then takes you back to the Palace-on-Wheels at Chittaurgarh, thus winding up a day full of delights.

Day 7 : Tue Bharatpur arrival 0630 hrs. dep. 1145 hrs.

Early next morning, the Palace-on-wheels arrives Bharatpur, the capuital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. After breakfast pay a visit to the world famous bird sanctuary , Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nesting place for thousnds of Egrets, Siberain Cranes, Migratory water fowl and other speices of birds. 

Day 7 : Tue Agra arrival 1430 hrs. dep. 2100 hrs.

Arrive fatehpur sikri the red stone Mughal palatial comlex within the enclosure is a mosque built by the mughal emperor Akbar and deicated to sheikh Salim Chisti, amuslim Saint who blessed him with a son. After lunch move on from the Red fort and arrive at The Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. a pristine memory of his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. After diinner on the board and good nigh sleep. 

Day 8 :Wed Arrive Delhi 0600 hrs.

Arrive Delhi cantt. let the pleasent memories of the past week linger on your mind for a long long time.
