Places of interest around the campsite
1. Batseri Village
Housing the Apple Orchard camp, this small but ancient village of about 120 houses has two beautiful temples (dedicated to Buddha and Vishnu respectively) that act as great specimens of the unique hill architecture and carving of Kinnaur. On a hilly corner in this village there is a moraine that attracts a lot of visitors looking for snow in summer.
2. Rakcham Village
Rakcham is approximately 7 kms away from the campsite. This village is also located on one of the banks of the Baspa, the other bank consisting of farms and grazing grounds. Renowned for its striking natural beauty, this village has grown to be a popular spot for shooting of various hindi movies and ad films.
3. Chitkul Village
Chitkul is the last village in India towards the Indo-Tibetan border, which is about 35 km further on. The village is located about 18 kms from the campsite on old Hindustan Tibet trade route. Like Batseri, this village also houses two temples, one dedicated to Buddha and another to the Mother Goddess. Chitkul offers spectacular views of the mighty snow-capped peaks surrounding the Sangla Valley and the astounding beauty of the village leaves permanent imprints on the minds of visitors.
4. Sangla
Sangla is a major town in this region located on the Baspa with a total population of about 5000. Like all villages and towns in these mountains, this one also has a temple dedicated to the presiding deity Sri Berang Nag ji and an ancient Buddhist temple next to it. Across the Baspa, on the other side of the town lie the Rogti power plant and a trout fishery farm, major attractions for visitors to the region.
5. Kamru
Another significant town in the region is Kamru, with a total population of 3000. Other than the couple of temples located in the town, it is famous for the Kamru Fort, which is estimated to be 1000 years old. Once the capital of a vast territory encompassing the entire district of Kinnaur, Kamru was a major centre of power in medieval Himachal and the magnificent fort stands testimony to the fact.
Other than the above, Debbar Kanda, Rakcham Kanda and Panpo are other prominent places that attract many visitors.
