The Hemis Festival is celebrated in the month of November and it is widely beautifully photographed, also has a historical background. The festival celebrates the birth of the Buddhist Guru Rimpoche, who was born on the 5th day of the 10th month of the Monkey Year The Festival is held in the central open courtyard of the Gompa, where a stage is erected during the festival. During the Hemis festival, hawkers and shopkeepers set up stalls outside the monastery, selling a variety of wares- most of them souvenirs to cater to the crowds of tourists coming to see the festivals.
