Girdled by a five feet tall stone wall on its sides, the temple is divided into two sections i.e. a central hall and a God chamber. A lingam (black stone) is worshiped in the temple, which is regarded as the sign of the Divinity. The town is said to derive its name from Lord Mahabali or Shiva, who is shown here as a self-made lingam in the shape of a rudraksha seed. It is also believed that a spring flows below the shivling.
