Manimahesh trek with camping from Kalah Route: Overview

Manimahesh Yatra by Kalah is not a traditional route for Manimahesh as the most of pilgrims follow the Dhancho route. The trek trail goes through Kalah Village thats by known as Yatra by Kalah. The trek route also have low altitude pass known as  Sukh Dali Pass / Kalah pass (4650 meter) offers you one of the best unobstructed and spectacular views of the Dhauldhars and Pir Panjal range. The spectular view of  Holy Manimahesh Kailash and sacred Kuja peaks seem at a touching heart  from the top of the Sukh Dali pass. The Kalah Pass is mostly used by the pilgrims coming from Holi Valley and few pilgrims from Kangra, Mandi and Manali Region.

After crossing Inderhar, Jalsu, Talang, Thamsar, and Kaliheni Pass. Most favourable frequent route is Baijnath - Jalsu Pass - Holi - Kalah Pass - Manimahesh  and then Dhancho - Bharmour. The trek is not easy as Dhancho trail very rare facilities except JailKhad campsite. During yatra you will find a langar/ Bhandara at Jailkhad with a medical camp enroute. For this trek firstly you have to reach Hoil Village (38 Km from Bharmour) by Bus  or taxi.The actual Kalah Pass trek starts from Lower Tiari Village ( Just 03 Km before Holi). From Tiari  to Kalah Village then Drabbad then Jailkhad camp site. Jailkhad. This Trek is mostly through dense forest but becomes more tough when you left tree line but not like high altitude passes. This trekking route required little bit experience of trekking and can be completed with the help of experienced guides, tents and meal items. This trekking route will be opened from 15th May - 30th October. The trek is quite tough and adivsed that don't  trek alone or take the local guide.

Trekking Route: Bharmour - Holi (38 km by taxi) - followed by trek to Kalah Village  - Jailkhad  -  Sukh Dali - Kalah Pass - Manimahesh lake - Gaurikund -  Dhancho - Hadsar - Bharmour

Manimahesh Yatra through Kalah Pass - Itinerary

Start the tour from Pathankot and proceed to Dalhousie. It is around 85 km and take 2-3 hours. After arrival check into hotel take lunch and some rest there. After that visit some local sightseeing of Dalhousie like Panchpula, Dainkund and Satdhara Falls. After that came back to hotel and overnight stay at hotel.

Panchpula: Panchpula is located at a distance of around 3 km from Dalhousie. One of the famous picturesque spots in the region, the word Panchpula means five bridges. It is the place where a descending stream pours into and feeds several pools. The main stream that supplies water to cities of Dalhousie and Balloon is the Panchpula stream. The stream originates from the northern side of Dayakund, which then cuts through a ravine to fall into the water bodies located in Panchpula. A monument or a samadhi has been built where several streams meet at Panchpula in the memory of Sardar Ajit Singh, who was a great revolutionary.

Dainkund Peak: Dainkund Peak, perched at an altitude of 2755 metre, is the highest mount in Dalhousie. Tourists can enjoy 360° view of the entire valley from this peak. The sound of the breeze passing through the trees makes a musical sound, due to which this peak has also acquired the name, the singing hill. The top of this hill is occupied by the Indian Air Force and from there a left turn will take tourists to the Pholani Devi Temple. One of the most interesting facts about this temple is that, except a trident there is nothing inside the temple premises.

After breakfast at Dalhousie we will move forward to visit the Kalatop wildlife sanctuary, then in the direction of Khajjiar.  Enroute visit Kalatop and Khajjiar, Take pleasure of the natural pictorial beauty of Mini Switzerland and take lunch. After having lunch we will move to Bharmour through Chamba. You will check into the hotel after reaching at Bharmour and later in the evening, visit at the Chaurasi Temple and the grand Aarti.

Khajjiar: Khajjiar is one of the famous retreats among the visitors. Khajjiar is famous for the popular Khajji Naga shrine dedicated to the serpent god from which the name is believed to have been derived. You can also enjoy trekking and adventurous activities at khajjiar. It is also Known as Mini Switzerland.

Chaurasi (84 ) Temples:  The quaint little town of Bharmour is held in high regard for it is the pious earth of this place that houses the Chaurasi Temple. It is in fact a complex housing many temples with the Lakshmi Devi, Ganesh, Manimahesh and Narsimha being the main ones. It is around these temples that the activities, culture and customs of the people of the area revolve. The splendid mountains all around embrace it in their folds and add majesty to an already devout atmosphere. It is also known as the Chaurasi Khamba for the exquisite 84 pillars that form a part of the temple complex.

Early in the morning troop will move to the Brahmani temple. Brahmani Mata temple complex is at the top of the ridge, three kilometers away from the Bharmour and with in 2 hours will reach you at Brahmani Temple through village Malkauta. After holy dip in pool and passing some time lunch will be provided to the troop. After lunch troop will move to Bhim Godda and Ghararu to watch more natural and scenic beauty of Bharmour. In evening troop will back to Bharmour. After spending the whole day at Brahmani and Ghararu return back to Bharmour in evening.

Bharmani Mata Temple: Brahmani Mata temple complex is at the top of the ridge, 4km away from the Bharmour. The place is mainly known for Goddess Brahmani Mata. According to a local legend and people believe that the Bharmour was called Brahmpura after Brahmani Devi. When Lord Shiva went to Manimahesh Kailash granted a boon to goddess Brahmani Devi that all persons intending to go on pilgrimage to Manimaheshmust have a dip in their holy pool. Failing this, their pilgrimage would not be acceptable to Lord Shiva. That’s by every visitor firstly take bath in Brahmani’s holy pool before Manimahesh Lake.

 

After Breakfast, Start for the Holi through vehicle about two hours from Bharmour, After going from Bharmour a small destination Kharamukh will come after 14 kilometers, Kharamukh is the joining point of Ravi and Budhil Rivers. After crossing Ravi River through a RCC cantilever box type bridge, You will reach The destination Holi through small villages such as Garola, Machetar, and Dalli.

Staying briefly at Holi and enjoy the attractions locally,  will move to next destination Laakewali Mata through vehicle via Deyol, Gadoh and Nayagram. There is a famous Temple of Goddess generally known as Laakewali Mata. Have Mata darshan and after taking lunch and seeing the Ways of Jaalsu and Thamsar Passes from the temple, You will return to Holi Village. Enjoy the beauty of small beautiful town Holi and their small villages. Dinner and Overnight stay at Camp.

Holi to Kalah is 12 kms trek. After taking breakfast early in the morning, You will move through the gradual and steep trek involving several ascents and descents to the Kalah village, From Kalah Village, The Trek is actually a climb for one hour to reach Tiari village. Tiari is big village and consist of two villages upper Tiari and lower Tiari. After taking small rest in Village, You will have to negotaite a steep climb for half an hour along the small ridge. You will reach at a final destination of the day Kalah village 6 kilometer from top of the ridge. Enjoy the beauty of Kalah village and spend the left day in the village. Lunch and dinner will be provided in Village Kalah.   

 

Kalah to Manimahesh Lake is 14 kms trek, which totally depends upon the weather and physical condition of trekker. After taking light breakfast and packed lunch early in the morning at Kalah, We will move to Manimahesh Lake through steep climbs and will reach at lake after 6 – 7 hours from Kalah. We will reach on the west side of the Manimahesh Lake after taking small rests and refreshments. The path is steep and tiring, require repeated motivation to trekker. Take a sacred bath in the Lake, meditate for a while in the backdrop of Manimahesh mountain, Here lunch will be provided, spend and enjoy the whole day at Manimahesh Lake. In evening troop, you move downhill to Gaurikund, which is last destination of the day.Night Stay in GauriKund Cams.

Note :- Generally Travelling Guide will not take the risk or allow to cross the ridge in bad weather conditions and will wait for clearing the sky. If sun shine then after taking light breakfast and packed lunch start moving ahead very early in the morning around 6:00 am to ensure that the snow is frozen for easier walking and if fails to cross the ridge before 12 - 1:00 pm otherwise will create big problem as heavy snow winds, rainfall even snow fall can be happen.

 

Wakeup Early Morning and after breakfast trek downhill, toward Sunderashi via Bhairoghati from Gaurikund around 10:00 Am. At Bhairoghati you will find Gaurikund glacier, so cross the glacier very carefully. Sunderashi is famous for medicinal plants and unseen flowers. From here Dhancho is four kms away, so go downhill via Banddar Ghati or other way. Trek of one hour will reach you Dhancho. This place is famous for water fall. It is believes that the peoples who wish to execute their own home, construct a home with small stones at Dhancho and pray to Lord Shiva to have their own home before next visit. After lunch, you will move to Hadsar. Dhancho to Hadsar is six kilometer trek and will be covered in two hours very easily if you are not so tired. After reaching Hadsar move to Bharmour via taxi last destination of the trek. After reaching Bharmour check in to hotel for dinner and night stay.

 

After breakfast check out from hotel and Proceed to Pathankot. It is around 180 km and take 5-6 hours to arrive. In between your Journey have lunch at Chamba. After that proceed to Pathankot. Our representative will drop you at Pathankot.

Kalatop Wildlife sanctuary: Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the district of Chamba, is one of the most popular as well as most frequented sanctuaries in state of Himachal Pradesh. Popularly known as the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary, the entire forest is covered with the thick foliage of deodar trees. In addition the sanctuary is also home to several animals and birds. Sprawling over an area of 1962 hectares, the sanctuary is located at a distance of 6 km from Dalhousie. The vegetation is in this sanctuary mainly comprises blue pine, fir and deodar trees.  Home to several species of animals and birds that reside within the forests make it one of the most popular tourist attractions of the entire State.

Best Time to Visit Manimahesh Kailash Trek

Mid- June to Mid- October

Till July, there are high chances that trekkers will spot snowfall at high passes. But by the end of August, the amount of snow considerably reduces. As the months proceed, one might experience rainfall towards Kullu-Manali valley but at the high passes, Spiti, the weather remains sunny. Moving further, in September, the day temperature may range between 12°C and 20°C. However, the night is relatively chilly as temperature may dip to minus (-2 to 6 °C), also, there is the slightest possibility of snow fall. With the onset of October, the day temperature hovers around 12-18 °C and evenings and nights are comparatively colder (- 6 to 4 °C).


How to Reach Bharmour?

Bharmour is the  main base of  all Manimahesh routes. So this is the orign point of  Manimahesh trek and yatra. Bharmour is well connected by road but not with rail and air. But visitors can assess Bharmour by near by conacting  airport and  railhead.

By Air: The nearest airport is at Gaggal (Kangra) near Dharamshala which is 190 km  and other is Amritsar Airport 300 km from Bharmour.   Taxis and Buses are available.

By Rail: The nearest railway terminal is situated in Chakki Bank  and Pathankot, Punjab which is at a distance of 180kms. Taxis and Buses are available.

By Road: Bharmour is well connected by roads with main cities of Himachal Pradesh like Chamba, Kangra, Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Manali, Mcleodgunj, Shimla etc. It is 60kms from the District headquarter Chamba and approximately 200kms from Dharamshala at a height of 2195mts from  sea level. Taxis and Buses are available. There are regular Bus services from Pathankot and Kangra to Chamba then to Bharmour.


Manimahesh Yatra by Helicopter

Arrival at Pathankot/Chakki Bank/ Gaggal shall continue journey for Bharmour, Himachal Pradesh, Overnight stay at Bharmour. From here Dhancho is four kms away, so go downhill via Banddar Ghati or other way. Trek of one hour will reach you Dhancho. This place is famous for water fall. It is believes that the peoples who wish to execute their own home, construct a home with small stones at Dhancho and pray to Lord Shiva to have their own home before next visit. After lunch, you will move to Hadsar. Dhancho to Hadsar is six kilometer trek and will be covered in two hours very easily if you are not so tired. After reaching Hadsar move to Bharmour via taxi last destination of the trek. After reaching Bharmour check in to hotel for dinner and night stay.

 

After breakfast check out from hotel and Proceed to Pathankot. It is around 180 km and take 5-6 hours to arrive. In between your Journey have lunch at Chamba. After that proceed to Pathankot. Our representative will drop you at Pathankot.
