Yelagiri is a hill station in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu, India, situated off the Vaniyambadi-Tirupattur road.Located at an altitude of 1,410 metres above Mean Sea Level and spread across 30 km2, the Yelagiri village (also spelled Elagiri at times) is surrounded by orchards, rose-gardens, and green valleys.
Bangalore Airport (145 km) and Chennai Airport (233 km) are close to Yelagiri. Both these airports handle domestic and international flights. Cabs to Yelagiri are easily available from both these airports. With a bit of haggling, you can get the best bargain to arrive at Yelagiri.
There is no railway station in Yelagiri
The closest rail head to Yelagiri is Jolarpettai Junction. It is about 21 km away from Yelagiri. Trains coming from Chennai, Bangalore and Coimbatore stop here. Cabs are easily available from Jolarpettai to Yelagiri. The fare would come up to Rs 500 approximately.
You can both take a bus or drive down to Yelagiri. Yelagiri is well connected by Road from Ponneri. Regular bus services are available from cities like Tiruoathur, Bangalore, Chennai, Krishnagiri and Vanayambadi. You can also drive down from Bangalore, Chennai and Coimbatore. From Bangalore, you have to take the NH 7 towards Krishnagiri, from Chennai you will have to take the NH 4 and head towards Vellore and from Coimbatore you can take the NH 47 to Salem and then arrive at Krishnagiri.
Best Season / Best time to visit Yelagiri
Yelagiri has a moderate climate all through the year. During summers (March to June) temperature varies from 18°C to 34°C. Winters (November to February) are cool and temperature ranges from 11°C to 25°C. Monsoons (July to September) receives an average rainfall.
Pongal (January) and Deepavali during October are two important festivals celebrated with much gaiety and enthusiasm. Summer festival for three days in the month of May is very attractive and during this period tourists flock to this place.
Best season to visit Yelagiri is from November to February.
