1. Basilica of Bom Jesus, Goa

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a monument typical of the classic forms of plane architecture, introduced by the Society of Jesus, otherwise known as the Jesuits. The façade, which is of granite, represents features of five styles of architecture: Roman, Ionic, Doric, Corinthian and Composite. It is a large single Nave structure built ( 1595-1605) and paid for with legacies left by Dom Jeronimo Mascarenhas, a wealthy Portuguese Captain of Cochin. The interior of the church is a study in contrasts. The design in itself is simple, but the floor is laid with the finest marble, and was inlaid with precious stones. The altar is elaborately carved and gilded.

2. Se Cathedral Church, Goa

The Cathedral stands to the west of the great square called Terreiro de Sabaio and has its façade turned to the east. Its beautiful courtyard is approached by a flight of steps. The building is Portuguese-Gothic in style with a Tuscan exterior and Corinthian interior. The church is 250 ft in length and 181 ft in breath. The frontispiece stands 115 ft high.

12. St. Anne Church, Goa

The Church of Anne was declared a national monument in 1931 during the Portuguese era as per Government Portario. The Church, located on the banks of River Siridao, was first conceived by Fr. Mons Francisco do Rego. He started the construction with his own contributions and some from the villagers around the area. It is very interesting to know that Fr. Francisco do Rego’s ancestors were Hindu Brahmins from a nearby village of Neura. The construction of Church of St. Anne began in the year 1577 and was completed by 1695, long after Fr. St. Thomas, the Apostle of Christ landed in AD 52 at Kodungalur, the first centuary west coast harbour of Kerala (Pliny’s Primum Emporium India) and went on to establish seven churches for the faithful he evangelised in Kerala. 21. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Goa
